Default Any electronic/tv/vcr people?

ok my parents have got a sanyo vcr which is about 3 maybe 4 years old and apparently today it just stopped working, you can turn it on via the button on the actual vcr and the remote but nothing else works on the remote or the other buttons on the front of the vcr? we have put brand new batteries in the remote but that doesnt make it work.

Seems strange to me it was working fine yesterday and now all of the sudden most of the buttons dont work and we cant even eject the tape.

It gets used nearly everyday by my mum so i guess its had alot of use

What are we thinking? screwed internally or something simple?
