I have recently sold my fiesta RS1800 after 11yrs ownership and i am considering buying an S2, my budget for the right car would be 4-5k.
Can anybody give me some advice as what to look out for ie rust, mechanical ( though not very mechanically minded) etc etc.

Where to start really. You should get something nice for that money - but still be very careful. I'd really recommend taking someone with you who knows about them - really knows. There are a few people on here from scotland that know there stuff.

4-5k will you get a very nice Series 1 mate, far better than any Series 2 in my opinion. We all know they are rude

Whichever you buy though, they are not too dis-similar. As Rick says try and get an RS Turbo boffin to go with you.

oh and for that sort of money that u have avaliable a good series 1 is in your reach and an extremly good series 2 as well.

when looking at the cars check all the panel gaps, check for damp carpets, check the wheel wells for rusty arches, check the boot behind those carpets on the side cause they can fill up with water when the sunroof seals go( mine does regulary)

engine make sure the car aint warm when u start it cause it might hide problems look for smoke, blue means oil n white is water, smoke after boosting means turbo seals are going,

just check for RUST RUST AND MORE RUST LOL!

 

im from scotland and would recomend going south for a s2 i bought mine in surrey for £4500 and any i went to look at in scotland were very rusty. although u do get some clean cars most come up from england.
