hi ppl
My clutch went the other day on my Escort, so Im going to attempt to change it myself. Im fairly good with my hands and have a faitr bit experience with engines so im not jumping in at the deep end. Im just wondering if anyone has any quick guides/tips to make my job a bit easier, as ive never done a clutch before on an escort? IE what has to come out? metering head looks like the first!
thanks in advance
Jamie

metering head stays in place as the box come out from the bottom.
anti roll bar off
starter motor off
abs belts/modulators off
clutch/speedo cable off
driveshafts out
support engine with some form of jack or from the top
then undo the gearbox cradle
lower engine/box together then slide gearbox off
there are probably bits ive missed.
i swapped a gearbox on my tubo a few months ago and i have never done any work on a car before really (apart from oil change etc)
what i will say is get a Haynes guide as thats what i used and its pretty straightforward.
out with the old

in with the new

if you have any problem while doing it then you can send me a pm if you like and i will talk you through it in more detail

not so hard getting it out cept for the lower control arms , a lot easier with the anti roll bar disconected from the front
also found it a piece off piss to put back with a chain hoist above the box and used a long piece of rope to make a type of cradle to the hook on the hoist. you can the get the height to line it up and swivel it to get the angle spot on with this - one man job like this
i also use a piece of carpet or the like to stop the crank pulley mucking your paint up when you drop the motor

Thats the one bit that everyone will agree with you is the hardest bit, getting the input shaft aligned with the clutch plate
Theres not a lot of need for a hoist, i think most do it without
Well done

Adjustable engine bar from your local Snap on man (on special at £30 at the mo) is a cracking bit of kit as well that as it's adjustable up and down as well as width ways makes it easier as well.
If fact (business opertunity alert) any of you are welcome to borrow 3 tonne hoist,2 tonne tranny jack and engine bar for £250 deposit and 2 cases of
