Default airbag light on fiesta zetec-s mk5 after swapping wheel

hi people.

bit of a newbie here and my mate off corsasport (jr) has reccomended me coming here to ask a bit of techie advice. hopefully someone will be able to help me out

basically ive got a mk5 (2001) fiesta zetec-s and the steering wheel went real shitty and the colour came off.
so i got myself a nice black leather puma steering wheel to replace it.

now i fitted it fine but my airbag light seems to play up now.
basically, with my old airbag in, the light gives a 3-flash cycle. so ive taken it out for now, and the light is now giving a 1-flash cycle

ive looked on my TIS disc and it states the following:

1 flash cycle - driver airbag circuit LFC
3 flash cycle - LFC common to both driver and passenger airbag circuits
(LFC im assuming is Lamp Flash Code)

now i kept the clock spring from the puma steering wheel but i cant see why this would be different?
however, the puma it came out of had deployed the airbag so would that mean the clock spring cant be used again?

ive also noticed that the plug that is wired into the steering wheel and plugs into the back of the airbag module is different on my old wheel and the new puma one. the fiesta wheel has a bigger plug so im wondering whether its a pre2000 and post2000 difference with maybe a resistor in the plug?

only reason im bothered is cos i dont wanna lose my airbag.

also, mot is due in just over a months time, is the airbag light a failure?

can anyone shed some light on it in anyway?

many thanks
