Default RS Off the road again

Coming home from work on friday night and the car went bang. was only cruising at about 40-45 mph and then gently tried to accelerate and it went bang in a big way!!! Oil all over the road the lot......

Anyway had a look at it today and looks like a rod has gone thro the side of the block. but never fear a mate of mine still has a rebuilt bottom end from when he had an RS. Mahle low comps, steal rods the lot so gonna have that off him and sort it out in the week hopefully.

Why do these things always happen just before the nice weekends!!!

Rick, sorry to dis-agree with you

It's called fatigue - it happens amte, things get old and break

BTW, mine went at low speed - about 40mph, the fact I was caining it for the previous 60 miles ahs nothing to do with it of course...

ha ha car has only done 58000 miles so a bit disappointed but it does get used everyday now. but suppose it being 15 years old its about time for an engine rebuild...

mate has let me down tonight and says he wants top dollar for his bottom end so wont be getting that one. can anyone recommend anyone to build me a new bottom end??? i want steel rods, steel crank, and low comp pistons but will i need anything else to improve reliability???

had a rod go caning it on the highway racing a beemer - found part of rod 1 go through the block and stopped behind the alternator bracket - drove home on three cylinders with my head out the side to see through the smoke!

looked to me that a rod bolt let go , probably would have heard it if not for the pints i had had earlier....

now having a set of rods shot peened and polished and bushed for other pistons.

i have got a set of arp bolts from the states - hope this helps

It usually is the bolt that fails - most probably from incorrect tightening. ARP's are defo worth having.

Of course, if the engine is detting, the rod will shatter in seconds. I personally don't knopw anyone who has broken an H section rod yet....
