I have put the block, crank and pistons (short motor) in my ERST but still using the CVH head. Not very good with the camera so no picks.

I agree it is very simular to the Zetec, but it does have oil spray jets for the underside of the pistons and the pistons have a 70mm x 3.5mm (approx) dish in them so you have to machine 3 - 4mm off the head or change the pistons.
Other wise the starter fits in the same place as the CVH and the oil filter is on the offside rear.

Yes. The head, rods and pistons are all zetec e stuff.

The pistons were forged items that were pocketed for compression. Ignore the fancy cam cover that has DURATEC on it, it's a zetec. The duratecs had the exhuast and inlet manifolds on opposite sides to the zetec.

Okay I see, are the oil spray jets standard on all Zetecs or is it a mod for the Focus RS only?

Its my first Zetec/Duratec conversion.

I ordered a new Focus RS short motor from Ford and they called it an early Duratec but as Rab points out it is infact a Zetec, also I know the Duratec is chain driven.

There you go.

And why use the CVH head? The 16v head will flow much better

the reason for me and simon to use the frs engine is because we had spent exstensive time developing the cylinder head, inlet manifold, turbo, all relevent pipe work and the fitting of gotech management. Unfortunatly time had took its toll on the big end bearings and it was down on oil pressure so rather than rebuilding the 1.9cvh it was cheaper to use more modern off the shelf readilly avaliable items plus it would have taken longer too rebuild the 1.9. Also we carry steel rods to suit that engine which then gave it even more strength and reliability

I agree that the engine could produce more power with a correct spec,d 16v head but again it would cost more and take longer still

Once the car is run in and mapped we will see the true potential of the 8v head again

as we have seen 350+ bhp on my efi cvh head with standard valves proven (stuart collins 1.6 cvh)

Well, that fair enough. I just think it's a shame to buy a 16v zetec then chuck away the best bit.

I'm sure you know what you're doing.

How much is a FRS engine from Ford? Just out of curiosity you understand

I just bought the short motor, and it was less than a set of forged pistons and rods for the CVH.
