Tuning & Boosting
Have you noticed that when a post is started about tuning, boosting an engine more bhp etc, it gets lots of responce, yet when another is about safety, handling etc, hardly anyone replies. Fact of life the more bhp the more the brakes and handling side needs to be done, if fact more so. I have seen fast cars that can not stop, I have been to accidents and bhp + poor brakes etc do not mix, please when discussing upgrades to engine think about how the car will handle and stop. Its not about how much you can get out of an engine its how on earth do you plan to handle it, you kill yourself thats fine, do you want the responcible for an innocent persons death on your hands ?. In 20 odd years in the motor trade I have seen 50 deaths all because they spent money on more bhp and hardly any of the critical aspects, think before you tune.

I am the same. I belive the first "go faster" mod you can do to any car is increase braking power. "But that don't make you go faster" I hear everyone cry. No, but it means you can brake later and harder, meaning you and your mates two std cars, you will win a race as you can outbrake him to win corners....
No point having 200bhp if your brakes are only good enough for 130, and no point having 200bhp if the suspension/bushes can only handle 150bhp onto the road is it?

Well said m8,as an ex Ambulance man i have seen the results of too much power and insufficient chassis mods to cope with it !!,Also having been involved in motorsport to british championship level for many years,i know as well as you do that the best initial results for performance improvement come from chassis mods and not more power !!!
We see it all the time in bike racing,a customer will come to you and ask for power mods when his bike handles so crap it can`t handle what it`s already got(that goes for almost every car as well)but unfortunately its a macho thing, guys love to talk big numbers in the pub in front of their friends(something to do with small willies i think).
Anyone who needs graphic proof of this need look no further than Geoff Turton of GNT Fabrications and his brilliant pug 306 Maxi WRC copy, despite having the standard 2.0 motor and 6 speed box,it makes a laughing stock of some really powerful cars at track days because of its mega suspension/brake setup.
So people start listening to people who know and mod your cars in the correct order and stop trying to impress your mates with power figures.........
