Default car wont idle, help needed

started my car for the first time today after putting in the engine, it starts ok and will rev ok but it just wont idle it dies, now i know that my ht leads are ok and in correc6t order and im getting a spark so im thinking it might be a fuel problem, the fuel pump near the tank is making a horrible whineing noise is this a problem? it`s a new pump tho, there is petrol getting to the correct places as the car runs when i rev it !!! any ideas ?

Yep air leak is that mate by the sounds of it, or the idle is set too low.

You said it'll rev ok, so I don't think it has to do with the fuel pump.

probably an air leak or the idle screw needs adjusting, if your fuel pump is really loud, it might be on its way out or on another note how much petrol is in it? when my mates car has low petrol it makes a right racket!

Better get the fuel pump fixed first. But I'm quite sure, it won't solve the idle problem.

Air leaks is almost certainly the cause check through everything (especialy the hard plastic hose that goes from the top left of the rocker cover and filter to the metering head these can be a bugger for cracking/splitting.

Some fuel pumps are quite noisy in operation mine has been quite audible for the last 7 years but still delivers the goods
