crunchey gears
hello there.
it sometimes is difficult to get my car into gear, especially reverse, the car has a padle clutch in it and the clutch doesnt slip at all so i presume its not the clutch. So any ideas, to my mind it leaves, clutch cable/gear selectors need adjusting or box itself is on way out.
anybody got any ideas?
cheers

also mine is hard to get into gear and reverse like yours scott
whats the cause?
It can be 2 things, the quadrant not working or the thrust bearing/springs going on the clutch.
scottbrown if your clutch is fairly new it may well be the quadrant at fault.
TURBO BOI yours could well be the clutch is on its way out, is the pedal very heavy, and does it ever judder or "squeal" when you pull off?

The squealling noise (thats how i would describe it anyway) alos happens when pulling off, usually when the clutch is VERY worn though. For examply my Orion has got its original clutch and is on 108k, that worn
Uprated clutches do tend to judder, i'd say for you its probably the quadrant failed, MK6 pedal conversion would be a good mod

scottbrown, its not very hard, theres a guide on the AP website. Basically you change the pedal for a MK6 one, it has a bigger quadrant aswell, so that makes the pedal both lighter, and gives more lift, aswell as havign a screw to adjust it, so theres no risk of the adjuster breaking
What does the pedal feel like now? Does it feel nice, or not? (hard question i know
)

so its just the actual pedal i need from a mk6? what about cable? do they fit straight on?
Hmmmmmmm, have you got the highest spec clutch?
You need the pedal itself, and 58mm WHITE quadrant, NOT the 55mm black one (the AP website is wrong) and its worth getting the 2 plastic bushes that fit into the pedal just for good practice.
heres the page that describes the rest. It should fit straight on

That quadrant is easy to cut, or if you're feeling extra brave, GRINDER
