Old Merc Sl's - owners forums/advice
My girlfriends sister is after one of these:

Are there any forums out there specifically for old mercs or old cars like this?
Looking to know anything and everything about these:
What model to go for?
How expensive they are to run?
Parts availability?
Price and what to look for when buying?
Cheers

Cheers JTECHSAFF - but not what she'll want to hear
I had a 280 SL a couple of years ago. Simple straight 6, EASY to get bits for through German Swedish and French
As said above, they're not the nicest thing to drive but I bought one because obviously I had a profit in mind and I also thought it may help me to get pussy.
It didn't.

The great things about these cars though is that they give you the urge to play some really crap 80's soft rock ballads at full tilt with the roof down.
The theme from baywatch is my favourite.
just remembered what happened to the one we did..... one of the blokes had just set the steering up, after the car had a bare metal respray, the full monty underneath aswell ,engine build etc, he had the steering wheel off aligning it , sat in the driver seat with the door open, he flicked the key over by mistake only to find the car had a faulty inhibitor switch on the auto gearbox....... it shot backwards ripped the door off and turned the A pillar inside out!!! The boss wernt to happy as it was his car!!

Now I'm humming "never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down" you bastid.
ANYWAY back on topic, they're great fun but cars have improved exponentially in the last 20 years and she will be beaten by a 1.6 escort in a straight line and by a fiat panda round the twisties if that's a factor in her decision at all.
They're not unreliable though and whatever she pays for it, she'll get back in 2 years time [but more likely in 3 months when she's bored of it
ha ha . never gonna run around or desert you..........
aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh give you up.....
aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh give you up.....
Never gonna give never gonna give....... give you up

thats weird you say that, cos the boss i was working for brought a wreck, spent soooo much restoring it, then he drove it for the first time and it was sold in a week, he hated it

still can get loads of parts from mercedes dealers,
mechanically strong ,if looked after,
parts price wise £500 for a set of plugs leads on a v8 from mercs
merc owners club is a good place to start .
there like any car make sure its got good history.
v8 is slow and lazy also have alot of body roll but there not meant for racing
