ok, just about to give this a crack.

im guessing you just unbolt the 2 screws on the end and it slides out...?

anyone done one before wanna give me some tips before i start?

 

Dont plan anything for the next 2 hours..........

1. Remove drivers seat
2. Undo all the heater ducting around the matrix to give your self room
3. Give it an almighty shuv!

alright new heater matrix is in place

wasn't that hard a job in the end, bit of a pain getting it out but after that it was a piece of piss.

quick question, the hoses that go onto the matrix:

the one that comes from the thermostat goes into the bottom one?

Well, It took me about 2 hours or so to get my matrix out, and the new one back in the casing, bearing in mind I fix computers, not car's .

At the moment, the centre console and surrounding area is bare, the drivers recaro is held in by 2 bolts (just so I could put it away) and the passenger recaro is in my living room

I'll be re-assembling everything today / tomorrow / Monday when it cool's down a bit with a Stella Artois in hand

 

ok whilst i was doing it i took a few photos so i could show people how you go about swapping them over.

first of all to make the job easier you need to remove both the front seats and the centre console



next you need to get your head under the pedals and look up towards the back of the dash.

you will see a bracket which holds the back of the dash in place

undo the screw highlighted by the yellow arrow


there will be one of these on each side of the dash so undo the one on the passenger side too (the one on the passenger side will have a little cable bolted to it which controls the heater direction

then you need to get back under the pedals and the next picture shows the bolts you need to undo.
the green arrows are the 2 bolts which hold the heater matrix in place - undo these and put them to one side

next you need to remove as much of the ducting (orange circle) as possible so the heater 'box thing' (technical term ) is easier to move out the way.

finally you need to undo the bolts that suspend the heater 'box thing' which is shown by the red arrow in the picture. again you need to undo them on both sides



when you have undone all these bolts you need to lower the 'box thing' out the way so you can remove the heater matrix. mine was a bit of a bastard to come out but in the end it dropped out and landed in the drivers side footwell.

you may find that you need to pull it right forwards so that the heater matrix pipes clear the bulkhead. (i just broke the pipes so that they came through )

now you can withdraw the heater matrix and slide in the new one.

refitting is much easier than removal.

refit the 2 screws that hold in the heater matrix

just raise the 'box thing' and thread the heater matrix pipes up through the bulkhead.

do up the bolts that suspend it in place and bolt the brackets back onto it and refit the heater ducting.

then you just refit the seats and centre console (perfect opportunity to get the hoover out first! )



hope this comes n handy for someone!

i take the black side of the dash out to do mine,dont have to take seats ect out then,but each to there own!

I removed mine without removing parts of the dash or the seats... just a bit fiddly thats all

 

my dash already out for the resto so not a prob

 

I'll be doing mine soon too. This week maybe. This guide will certainly help me, doesn't look quite as bad as I had thought, I had figured that the dash was coming out (although thats not too hard), will prefer leaving it in.

 

Just unpacked the car from it's winter storage to find the bastard matrix is leaking|?!?!?!?!? and yeah, I swore somewhat!

Decided to strip the whole interior out to dry the thing out, which fortunately was just damp..
Does anyone have any ideas what to use or has replaced the undercarpet sound deadening, as the original stuff is really damp and 'manky' as hell!!
Would underlay or dynamat type product do, or is that just a stupid idea???
