T4 turbo's
lots seem to be around on ebay at the moment for about £220-300 new. does anyone know the actual spec of the standard RS500 one (A/R ratios etc) or is there a better T4 spec than RS500 anyway?
cheers

there is no way that it is a genuine T4 if they are going for 2-300 quid...
a proper T4 is worth wayyy more now specially as you cant get the exhaust housing anymore.
the ones on ebay will be dodgy bus turbos or something?
my T4 which is a rs500 hybrid says ar.70 on comp wheel and ar.63 on exhaust.
can get the serial number if needed?

They wont be RS500 spec.
But they will be T4's to come description. And if you had the exact details (ie if someone could give me the garrett numbers for the exhaust side and the compressor side) you could easily order a correct one from the people who make these (suprisingly good these days) copys in china, if you got the contacts...
T4 is the vaugest term EVER tho.
The quality of most these turbos are ok, esp for the money, but they wont be a straight swap for a RS500 one so will need mods to fit, and you gotta be sure its the correct spec for your motor, as most will be off tractors or trucks or so on.
But SOME arnt, and 99% of these "T whatever" turbos are just hybrids, the compressor off a big John Deer, and a turbine off something more suitable.
T4s are the easiest thing for them to sell on for these ebay guys too, as not only does T4 sound good, they buy them for under 200dollars each from the manufacturer
You will be suprised how many big tuners use versions of these turbos (usually with housings swapped around to be more suited) and sell them as their own flash turbos, for a mega markup too.

For example, a T04S04 (Garrett number 466065-9002) from a Navistar truck is more commonly known in the tuning scene as a T61 turbo. Just generally run a smaller exhaust housing.
I could get one of them, a perfectly good exact copy, for about 90quid plus shipping, a LOT better than 900+ for a "real" one from a Garrett dealer...
