Default Cosworth Saff 4x4 running in 2wd

Just discovered mt Saff 4x4 is only driving the front wheels or the rear wheels but not all 4. If I pullaway real quick I can spin the back wheels just like a 2wd. Have changed the oil in the transfer case but makes no difference. If I jack up the car on one side and turn the back wheel it does not turn the front wheel. If I try it on my buddies car the back wheel turns the front. Any ideas?

its more than likely that the center viscus coupling in your gearbox is shot.
this small unit is what transfers torque to the front wheels via a chain inside the gearbox and transferbox.it is the drive to the front wheels that will be lost, you will always have rearwheel drive
if this is the case i,m afraid its a box removal and coupling replacement,or a recon one from a specialist.

Thanks I had a feeling it might be that. Does the whole gearbox have to come out or can you remove the transfer case only?

i have changed over the contents of a transfer box including the viscus coupling when the gearbox was totally removed which is mush easier, but it may be possible to do it in position, and if its proves a bit tricky then you have'nt much further to go to remove the box in total.
