Default rs turbo gearboxes

hello all just a quick question i was hoping someone could clear up

i have a s1 one and it needs a new gearbox its not completly gone yet but its hanging in there for dear life

i was hoping to get a box with a longer final drive some one told me the fiesta rs turbo has a longer final drive is this true and if so will it go stright on ?
as im fed up with doing 80 mph at 4000 rpm (or so) and with the cossie management on it its drinking juice no end on long runs

also i have heard that a diesel box from a mark 3 will go on

please help as i aint got a clue

cheers peeps

justin

80 at 4000 rpm!!!
a diesel box does have a slightly longer 5th gear but is no stronger and does not have an LSD.
dont know about the gearing on FRST but also that has no LSD

I was under the impression that only a S1 casing could be used in a S1 due to the tie bar assembly.

My understanding is you can fit an S1 box to an S2 but not the other way round.

The myth surrounding the diesel box being tougher has been around for ages. It IS a myth though and the box is no tougher and has no LSD. The only thing in it's favour is it's cheap.

Bernie at CTS is the man who sorted my gearbox out and since fitting his box (my 13th) I've had no problems

I have a Orion mk1 diesel box with S1 LSD and it's just brilliant. No tany stronger than a S1 box but much better ratios with a 3.58 final drive. The myth of the stronger diesel boxes is propably from the fact that never diesel gearboxes from mk5/6 escorts are stronger and they were used because they take the S2 8-bolt lsd directly.
