Alot of insurance companies won't touch Q plates, Old Bill don't like them (especially the Cosworth / RS Turbo variety) as they consider them built from nicked cars (which some probably are). Resale values are usually a bit crap too. Saying that, they're cheaper to buy so it's horses for courses.

i had a black Q plate 3door cossie about 3 years ago.
the woman who owned it from new had it stolen recovered and had a few bits missing when it was found again, after a while of it being sorted out the dvla chose to put it on a Q plate, but the woman then kept it for about another 14 years.
luckily we knew this woman and a mate then bought it off her as the Q plate didnt bother him as we knew the car, he then had it about 6 months and i snapped it up off him for a bargain price of 3k and the car had only covered 43,000 miles so in my eyes i could hardly go wrong with it!

Yes Simon did buy the car from the Isle of White.

Q plates
IF the price is right YES
IF the history of the car is "proveable"/has paper work for why its a Q YES
IF you can get it insured YES
Those are the only important points in my opinion- the rest is like buying a normal car.

I have had a Q plate 3dr for over 3 yrs & its been the best cossie i've had, better than both of the saph's i had, its the one you mention above & its still only done 58k in total. never been pulled by the plod either, my mate is a traffic cop in Maidstone & told me that he won't pull a Q plate car over anymore than any other car as if its on a Q the police know its been checked over properly & put on a Q.
I only bought a 3dr on a Q as i couldn't see the sense in spending 7k on a 3dr i was going to rag around a track !
Keep thinking of selling mine as i don't use it much but it won't be that cheap as its a very good spec, will be at National Day in the infield parking.
