speaker polarity

Default speaker polarity

how do you identify which speaker wires are which,i know you can use a battery across the ends of the wire and watch the cone move in or out but what means its + or -?

plus moves out ... but personally i would not put a strong dc currrent accross the terminals .. can you not look at what wires are connected to the speakers .. normally the black trace or the raised rib on the side is negative ...

Small square battery across the wires will show which way the speaker moves........ Positive forwards etc

yeah you should be safe enough with a little 1.5v battery, not always necessary to find out what wire is pos and which is neg, as long as both speakers are the same ie you can wire a speaker up 'backwards' as long as both speakers (assuming you are fitting fronts OR rears) are wired up 'backwards'.

problem is all the speaker wires have been extended in to the boot for the amp so they are all identical and im not ripping all the interior out again,lol, ill try the battery trick

Interesting, i was told it didn't actually make any difference which connection was positive or negative?

I've wired a few speakers up like this with no obvious problems?
