Im pretty much set on selling the tubbo - had my fun, and given ive finished Uni and have to go into the real world i fancy just a nice comfortable car for a bit... possibly before doing another Ka.

But they were a massive flop, its just the idea of alot of car for say 3k. Anyone know for any majoy downfalls with them? Prob be looking at the 2.5 V6 Manual.

Nice looking car, but not much in the way of tuning potential I don't think. Not sure if they use the same engine as the probe or not?

You might find it's not quick enough for you and get bored though.

 

same engine as the Mondeo 2.5V6.

nice looking cars, decent cruisers i would imagine.

can get a chip for them as well, so a few extra gee gee's and a bit of extra fuel economy

 

btw, Ford Probe Engine is a Mazda

and Ford Couger Engine is a Ford Duratec

Not interested in tuning it, nothings going to make me giggle while driving like the Ka does I just want something comfortable to plod about in and use everyday.

Im sure i heard Ford would only be making parts for them for a few years? If its the same lump as a Mondeo that doesnt really bother me so much.

 

yeah theyre basiclly mondeos underneath, which means rock solid reliablity, and if it does go tits up it wont be costly to fix. they handle well aswell.

ive been thinking of getting a small loan and getting one recently aswell, like you say, the 2.5 X pack ones are a fucking lot of car for well under 3k!

all the ST200 parts will bolt straight on aswell, so with a bluefin and exhuast on the st200 spec engine you should see well over 210bhp! which wont exactly be slow!

 

its a mondeo underneath with a cougar body so i'd imagine all the oily bits from a mondi will fit no problems

can be quite hard to find a low milers but i wouldnt let that put you off as the v6 can go on forever.

Kinda set on one now knowing its a Mondy underneath, and its an ST200 lump then?

Most ive seen having a quick look seem to be around the 60,000 miles mark.

 

the st24s handle really well for a std barge imo mate! it wont be like driving the car in your sig obv but still!

the engines are 170bhp, the same as the st24, but the inlet, throttle body, exhuasts, cams and ecu from the st200 with bolt straight on (same engine, just different spec, like the 1.8 zetecs). as said, with that lot and a few aftermarket goodies you'll be knocking on the door of 220bhp no hassle.

 

I had one through work for a couple of weeks and it really did drive very like a Mondeo but the thing that really pissed me off was the tilt action on the front seats to let folk into the back.

On pretty much every other car you can tilt the seat and when you pop it back it returns to the same position, but the mechanism on the Cougar slides the seat forward as it tilts, and doesn't return to the original setting.

I only had to let folk in and out a handful of times but it drove me nuts!

 

My mates Dad used to work for Ford and we had one of the pre-build models on test . . . yeah they don't handle like you Ka will, but for straight line acceleration I was fairly impressed. Stonked up a slip road on to the A66 and a quick glance at the speedo showed 70mph+ in second, and a quick punt into 3rd saw a ton+ on the speedo, and it felt nice and stable - you'll have fun, just a different kind!

good cars my uncle has the 2.5 v6 model he loves it, got leather climate control, in the 4 years he has it nohting ever gone wrong with it! he jus has it serviced by ford every 10-15k miles what ever it is!

not a popular car , but i do like them a lot i think its a marmite car you either love it or hate it.

for me they look awesome, like nohting else on the road!

be a good choice gareth, comfortable, reliable, cheap, what more you want, and its a bit different
