Due to Ford Fair this weekend, I have now caught the track bug... Although I only had 20 minutes, it was very good fun..I found out a few things though..

Staying off the gas, even when not going fast, can still send you a little sideways, but luckily I caught this..

And, my car doesn't like being hammered for 20minutes, because the temp starts to rise.. Wiring in a switch for the fan this weekend, hopefully to stop this happening again..

Right, here are a few photos, explaining, what has been done, and what needs to be done.. It won't interest anyone, as it's not a massive project, but it's a bit of a learning curve for myself..

I plan to do as much as I can by myself, and with the help of friends, cutting cost, and I suppose I'll feel a hell of a lot more proud once it's done, knowing I've spent lots of time on it.

This is where the car lives..



Room isn't too much of an issue, as the Bike can be removed, and then there is pretty much as much room as you'd like..

Stripped



I've already stripped the car, all the plastic that can be removed has been, as well as pretty much everything else, except the rear wiper motor.....

Spare wheel removed...





Sound deadening is next to come off, but I'm putting it off, as I've been told how much of a pain in the arse job it actually is...



The interior is all over my bedroom/garage... My mother loves it..









What I'll be needing is a cage.. don't really want something mental, just a rear cage, and possibly to the front of the car, but no doorbars, as I want to use the car as an everyday road car as well..

Something like this possibly? Anyone got any links as to where I can get one?






These should be being replaced with...



Corbeau Sprints.. They're Kevlar/GPR composite so should hopefully but lightish.

Oh, and the extra wide version please...



And that ^^ needs replacing with something a little more grippy..

Suspension

Suspension is pretty much sorted.. AVO coilovers, front upper and lower OMP strutbraces, so it handles very well already..





But this needs sorting... and should be sorted within a few weeks..



Yep, another popped avo.

Tyres, Brakes etc.

Brakes are sorted too, I've got some 300mm ST170 discs, with Jaguar X Type / Mk3 Mondeo calipers.. They stop very well, but I think some propper pads are in need, any suggestions on this? as well as decent brake fluid...



Also got some grippy Toyo Proxes T1-S's on.. which will do for now, as I got a decent deal on them..



Powerflex bushes are needed too..

Engine?

Not too concerned about the engine just yet, it's nippy, but brakes and suspension are the main things first..

For now though I have a 4-2-1 with a decat which helps it breath a little more, and pops and bangs like mad...





That's all I can really think of at the moment, obviously I'll update as often as possible.. and if I've missed anything let me know?

Also what size wheels are they? they look like 17's. If they are you'll probably find it handles better on the original wheels

 

LOL its called lift-off oversteer! its so fun! its how i wrote my blue zetec s off into a bridge back in march-ish!..o well my s2 cushioned the blow

The problem is I can't fit 15s over the brakes, so need to find some 16s.. not in that much of a hurry for those yet though..

Buying some seats tonight, unfortunatly demon tweeks don't have the Corbeau sprints in stock, and as I really want to be getting on with this, I'm going to look around for some others, or see if I can purchase the seats from anywhere else...

 

Ello Sorry I never had the chance to stop and chat etc at the show! Looks like those 20 minutes have changed your life/car (same thing )! I would suggest buying grooved discs or having yours grooved, it makes an enormous difference in my experience. I swapped from XR2i calipers and grooved 249mm discs to Wilwood 4 pots and 285mm smooth discs, and the jump in performance should've been much much bigger. The discs are extremely glazed, as are the pads, and I'm sure it's down to the smooth surface rather than the grooved face that helps keep things that bit rougher. Rally Design refused to groove them for me at the time of buying, but I'm looking to get someone to do them for me before too long, I know they'll sharpen up.

Right, I cancelled the order, as I found out these will be fixed to the floor....

and I wanted a little bit of movability..

and then I thought.....

FUCK IT They're on their way.. in grey, with silver sidemounts..

 

Lightly grooved discs would reduce the glazing, but so would a higher heat rating pad, the grooves would also increase the wear rate of the pad. But from the motorsport discs ive seen glazing (as long as it is distributed around the disc evenly) is no bad thing, you'll always get pick-up when the pad reaches high opperating temps. Its cracks in the disc that are a problem! And 'cutting' grooves (unless radiused shallow channels) will increase the disc's suscepability to cracking with heat cycles.

 

Yep, grooves do reduce brake pad life, but I'd rather that than have two smooth shiny surfaces to press together when I'm trying to induce a braking friction. I'm quite sure the pads I have on the Wilwoods now are the same pads I had in the XR2i calipers when I had the 8 groove Tar.Ox discs on, so it's a fairly direct comparison; 285mm 4 pots compared to 249mm standard 2i items.

 

Tar.Ox is just down the road from my office and they will groove your disc's for a price.

Dan dont worry about the seats, PMT are on to it

You tried safety devices for a cage? Pretty sure it would be easy to get a cage for your car due to all the fiesta's they race.
