take the caps off and look at em
if they ar escored up and changed colour (gone thru teh top coating)
they are buggered
if they look same all over they are prob ok, cranks needs a look too
i have 4 engines with duff big ends, not found anywhere to have the cranks done yet so they just stack up

) then you will see the con rods where they bolt to the crank, take the caps of the rods, held on with 2 bolts, and you will see the bearing shell inside.they should be a white colour and no scoring on them. mine where goldy brown colour when i took mine out, so they where totaly fooked.

If they look like this then there knackered....

What makes you suspect your bearings have gone, was the engine knocking?
As said above you need to take the big end bolts out and remove the con-rod caps, keep them in order - number one cap with number one rod etc. Once the caps are off you will be able to remove the bearings.

Hello guys got round to taking the caps off and i have a little scoring on number 4 and two of the bearing sheild was a light brown? rest looked white and clean is this where my problem is and can i just change them all, or do i have to get the crank out?
thanks guys for your help!
thanks guys for your help!
obviously if you kept on driving it with big ends knocking you would fuck your crank up. what i'm saying is, if the crank surfaces look ok (no noticable grooves) then there is a chance that your shells had just worn out and you would get away with new shells, but if the crank journals are scored then the only course of action is a regrind which unfortunatly means an engine out job. so if it were me and the crank looked ok i would gamble on some new shells.
