Default Uplifting car ownership post

Just read the plight of a new cossie owner who found out his new pride and joy was not exactly as advertised, plus maria's recently and countless others. This is what we hear the most.

Surely there are some good stories out there , if you have had a good experience, tell us about it, I think we all need a little uplifting.

I'll start with mine. Bought a 4x4 sapph cos 6 years ago, never missed a beat until recently (cambelt lost two teeth). Total cost to rebuild £1300 which is not bad considering it's about the first major expense I have had since owning it.

I love it and wouldn't part with it for anything in the world.

What about you ???

PS: Positive posts only - please

I've had more good experiences with Cossys than bad ones, but then they werent really that old when I got onto them.

I think the problem is that parts can be dear and some people tend to rag the shit out of them and think they can take the stick they gave them without proper maintenace and not realise that every side street garage can accomodate the work or have the knowledge to repair/service them.

Theres so many people out there nowadays that think they can service them themselves and end up fecking the up in a short cut to save money front loaded.

Although in all fairness when people start getting them to stage 3 onwards, things start to wear. If you put against some well known other marque performance cars for pound for pound, then they still come out quite well for maintenace, running bills, insurance, etc, etc

The power is very addicatable, but the money you need to throw at poor maintaned ones is never recoverable ....

Just my thoughts on them

Had a 4x4 Saph Cossie for 3 years and apart from engine mounts and a front drive shaft it was good as gold thoughout my ownership.

But then it did take me ages to find it in the first place.

Frog man!!!! Glad to hear you're back on the road mate!

My S2 cost me next to nothing to buy from the auction [don't want to make your eyes water as to how much ].

Its cost about £200 total in engine bits [labours cheap if you get your dad to do it ]

£300 for resprayed bits
NOTHING for the AA man to replace split heater hose

Alright, so she's nt running right but everytime I fire her up, I grin like a cheshire cat wouldn't swap it for the world!!

But maybe swap for £4000 cash...

All the bits are there, ready to go on, not quite repaired yet, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for once.

Any more for any more, surely, there's more than two/three of us with a good experience (not necessarily RS or cossie mind).

I owned my stg3 M.A.D tuned Escort Cossie for 6 months, and only spent £35 on her, which was only an oil and filter change!! Gave me NO grief whatsoever!!!

Cant get much better than that!!

I have had the cossie four years now i bought it when it was standard, apart from the usual wear an tear, It was all fine untill a year agao when the head gasket went only after 13yrs tho !!.. , but that was no trouble. Then i started modding it, since then i has cost a bit more, but i m am sure if i could resist messing around with it all the time and changing bits, it would be fine with no probs at all !!...

Oh and its still on it's original turbo pushing out over 300+ BHP !!...

And i cannot stop buying shiny bufty parts !!... ...

I have now taken it off the road to save a bit of cash, but i cannot help picking up more stuff, cos it it ain costing me to run it !!... lol.............

You won't have any problems with it m8, I had one (W reg - 1981), the bar that sits on top of the engine, under the rocker cover snapped once, car still ran fine until I found a replacement I am sure they put a fourth cylinder in there just for safety when only three were really needed
