beacuse the cvh spring compressor tool compresses the valve spring from above rather than a normal spring compressor grips the underside of the head, what ever stem seal ur working on, u need to make sure each piston is at tdc or near the top otherwise once the valve is released it will drop down inside the head, then ur head up taking to head off

Spin the engine over to its TDC timing mark, then you can do numbers 1 & 4, then you need to spin the bottom end over 180 degrees, and do numbers 2 & 3

Better still if you have access to a compressor you can get an airline that screws into the sparkplug hole and fills the combustion chamber with enough air for you to carry out your stem seal replacement

Stops any possibility of the valves dropping down into the cylinder (but its physically impossible on a standard RST lump as ive tried to lose a valve and couldn't )

put a rag around the spring you are working on.......the ones at the back are the biggest pain in the arse when one drops down the oil return

Take all four plugs out of the engine as well as it makes it a lot easier to turn the engine over by hand. Put a rag round the valve you are working on to prevent the collet dissappearing down an oil way.

Tool is about £10 from and decent MotorFactors. Think mine is a Sykes Picovant and cost me £7 three years ago. Draper one is a bit pants and bent halfway through doing the job
