Had a look at my cvh turbo's head today, as there is a tapping when the engine is cold, was told this is a lazy rocker. I am no expert on these things but saw this:
all the other ones are "down", so i presume this is the lazy rocker? anyone advise on whats going on and how i fix it?
thats the only one thats up like that. tappets are pretty new, can i replace one?
no a cam a followers must be renewed together. The one that is squashed so to speak is opening a valve. Put a spanner on the pully and turn the engine with it...youll see it some back out....
cool, will try that tomorrow. The tapping only lasts a couple mins till the car warms up, then its fine. was told maybe the tappet wasnt holding oil till it was warm?
My brothers has a tappet that clatters it's tits off for a couple of seconds on startup from cold and is then silent. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems so it's been left alone
The tension of the valve spring could have squeezed all the oil out of it. The tappets should remain quite solid and not compress like in your picture. If they compress like that, its lost all it's oil and needs the oil pressure for it to re adjust itself.
