You can, but they'd be really narrow in order to get them on without arch flaring...
Head on over to
www.e36coupe.co.uk and they will tell you whats what

20's would require mods and TBH unless you get very well suited rims unlike E46 stuff, even on 18s it'll look shit

...the new M3 19's fit...but dont do it anything over the std 17's (which are sexy as fuck IMO) will ruin the handling and that WHY we bought the M3 right?

Only the fronts IIRC. Ie need 4 fronts unless you wanna mod the arches.
330ci rims go straight on mind.
Wouldnt have thought 18s affect the handling really at all, and do look ok.
20s just kill the handling, and need big mods unless you want gay skinny fuckers.
Not sure 19s would do it much good either.
Big wide low offset 17s are the way to go, tall skinny wheels are for homos.

Sorry yes all fronts from M3..i viewed a car with them.
17's are the perfect size..unlike other manufacturers BMW know what they are doin...track day people advised stay std for best results.

Skinny 7and8 inch wide wheels like the 19s will be aint pimp on a car that size even if they was 30inch spinners made of diamond

Changing the wheels makes it look like a wannabee M3, it's the only car that looks worse with aftermarket wheels
Hence never changing
