Default Well tomorrow is my first meeting .........

with my councellor,

Basically in Feb 2003 I had a major bike accident which resulted in my right leg being completely smashed. I was wearing full bike leathers and a knox back protector.

Spent 9 months in hospital

8 operations
metal pins in side leg
metal work outside leg
pin through my shin with weights over the bed
metal work taken out
5 blood transfusions
new hip

Had my 9th op in November last year

Over the last yr my mood swings and nightmares are becoming more and more, they wake my partner up but I stay asleep, and apprently im holding my bad leg and im screaming for help and the work fuck.

Before my accident I was happy working in a busy Renault workshop as a tech, and as soon as I went back to work I handed inmy notice because I didnt like being close to so many people.
I left and went to a smaller workshop at Toyota/Lexus but after a yr I did the same and handed my notice in.

Last week my olds and my partner had, had enough of my attiude and are worried about my nightmares, they believe im suffering from post traumatic stress, I thought then were being mad.

But today I sat and though about the last 3 yrs and what they all said and decided to book my first session .

I'M SHITTING MYSELF.

Sorry just had to tell you

Fair play mate, takes a man to admit something like this, i wish you all the very best in your efforts to clear your mind, i hope you see it all through and you and your family can return to some form of normality

Fair play for you to say all that on an open forum, and thats a forward step for you in terms of counselling I think

As Mr S1 said - you MUST be completely truthfull. There's no point lying about anything, as you would only be lying to yourself. Remember that the counseller doesn't know you, and isn't there to make assumptions or pass judgement - they are there to help you, and to listen to you.

But no one can help you more than yourself. The counsellor can only DIRECT you to this self help. If you lie about anything or mislead, or leave bits out, or make stuff up, the directions are lost and you will never find the correct help......

Best of luck to you bro, hope it all goes well for you

Don't know you mate but as said above, you're going in the right direction. Tales a big man to admit he needs a helping hand with emotional/mental stuff like that. I know what I'm like and I would probably be like "fook that I can sort myself out etc etc." even if I knew I couldn't!

So big pat on the back for you mate and good luck

Good luck with it mate. There's no shame in admitting you need help, this is a big thing you've been through and it's not surprising you're having after effects. You'll find they're really helpful if, as others have said, you just say exactly what you're feeling. Once you start talking you'll be fine.

That would be nice having a sexy counseller,

but it was bad enough having a good looking physio in the pool with me, I had a perment rudder

Hmmm, I think you might be losing sight of why you're going though. If you get some old boot at least you'll be able to concentrate.

People said after I rolled my car I turned into a different person... wasn't my fault and another car was involved.

People never say if you've changed back though- 5 years later I'd like to think I have put the worst behind me- but if I am honest I still have a bit of an attitude problem and can be a little bit agressive..

I had some councelling- definatly a good idea.. and be as straight and honest as you can be.

(i wasnt in the same position as u but in a mans mind being in touch with emotions is bad i found a lump on my privates, but for 3 months i wouldnt go to th docs as i was "a man" and didnt care (yeah rite) also didnt wanna get my privates out for some old bloke doc but in the end dads advise made me do it and lil op latter all was fine an clear)

Good luck mate

i was offered something similar when i smashed myself up in a big way
never took it and i regret it to this day

hopefully everything will work out for you mate

on a more serious note, we could always ask someone to set up an "injured on the road" room and relive things on there
when my nan died i couldn't actually talk to anyone about it, but wrote a big long email to no one in particular and it felt like a big wieght had been lifted from me

That room idea seems like a very good idea bro.

Well first meet went really well, took me a while to get comfortable, kind of looking forward to the next meeting now.

was it a one to one thing or did you have to attend an AA style meet and say "hi, my name is zetec and i had an accident"?

i only ask because some parts of my physio were one to one and others were as part of a whole group of people
