sorry to jump in - but as i need new discs and calipers is it worthwhile to upgrade to the 4x4 items?

4x4 rear brake set up is better because you can run a vented disc which helps diperse heat. This obviously prolongs the life of the pads and helps stop the brake fluid reaching ridiculous temps.

they are only there to stop crap from getting into the back of the disc

you can run normal sierra ones if you want to run new stuff (i've done it on the twinkly) but if you want to fit bigger discs you will need to bin them anyway as they get in the way

besides, there was an article way way back in some mag that said binning the dust sheilds made the brakes more effective as they let more air to the disc and let them cool down better

you dont have them on the fronts do you, so bin em off.

BUT i have been told that the 1mm thickness of them does something with the wheels/camber so i am going to cut mine off around the hubs so that there is stil the 1mm bit of plate, but just no sheild

only difference between 4x4 and 2wd rears is that the 4x4 uses a vented disc and wider calliper.

it just means the track at the rear is that thickness wider if you keep the plate and cut the rest off

at least that way you don't need to mess about taking the hub to bits

Yep get the grinder out and cut the shonky things off
Take your time and make a neat job of it and try to avoid the brake lines
