With all due respect mate "Fuck Off!" I'm not blinkered I drive an Audi as my day to day hack, just stating that my brother thrashed one with his Fiesta so changed his mind about getting one. I didn't say they were crap or anything else.

 

Theres one where i live, runnig just over 300BHP (graphs to prove) and its awesome, really really goes...Not my cup of tea but can see why people like em...

I own a 250bhp stripped and caged S2 and a 200bhp Fiesta RS Turbo for fun as well as my Audi A4 daily hack. I also own a thoroughbred horse.

I don't think that's bad going at all

 

Mate used to have a modified series one running 190+, now got a subaru, bet that 'old mk4 with sello tape' could do a lot to my 300bhp subaru!

my mates got an 03 reg ardent blue one, not a bad looking car not very quick as standard though at all

 

mines running HKS Filter, decat- apexi exhaust ect running over a bar of boost!! its quick like goes well i'm a blue oval boy at heart (2wd Cossie ect) took it as a part ex but i'm impressed!!! Got the itch for a mint 3 door or escos...hope are lass doesn't see this post hahahahaha

 

Pretty competant cars, but limited tuning for sensible money on them compared to something like a YB

Mk3 with a LET is one of my favourite cars of all time in that sort of price range.

 

I like Mk3 GSI, I fancy one with a turbo lump, 300bhp? never driven one but look good

 

Ive driven a couple, they really do feel "right" with that engine in them, they feel comfortable with the power etc.

 

A few years back Autocar pitted a Mk4 Astra Sri Turbo ( forerunner to the Gsi but only 187bhp ) against one of the last small turbo Escort Cosworths ( one of Ford's press cars ) - had a small drag race and top speed run.
As I recall, the Astra quickly pulled a lead off the mark but as the speeds rose the Escos pegged it back and pulled past. I seem to also recall that they both maxed out at about high 130s?/ maybe 137/138mph

 

Serious over 300bhp its a mk3 like that white one in the pic GSI?? goes like stink i do like em but just carnt see myself in one thats all..

Had a 2wd chip-3door, went like hell scary in wet, i'm still cossie through and through just this scoobys like quick (civilised) not like my old YB that wanted to kill ya on every roundabout!!! (god i miss that LOL)

 

GSI TURBOS ARE NICE FOR A VAUXALL . HALF LEATHER SEATS ALL THE EXTRAS , AIR CON TRACTION CONTROL, CRUISE CONTROL, BUT ON THE TUNING SIDE FOOKING EXPENSIVE,MY MATE JUST HAD A STAGE ONE TUNE GRAPHS TO PROVE 287BHP, ARDEN BLUE IS THE COULOUR TO HAVE THOUGH

 

I always liked the look of the mk3 but have heard that they didn't handle well?
Could never afford one anyway when they were newish and now I still can't!

its all about a c20let in a stripped out nova(had an xe not a let but still immense). I hated vauxhalls till i went in this. its soo cool its untrue.

 

A few mates either have them or have had them.
There appears to be an issue with the turbo cooling/fueling as even on a standard car a short "spirited" run has the turbo glowing cherry red.
One mate had one to run alongside his Focus RS he still has the Focus but the Astra GSi turbo is long gone.
Decent enough cars but there do seem to be a few compromises
with them.

I'm not going to tune it really as its gonna be a car for both of us, plus I don't want it too fast, she'll only be scared of it lol

plus there's not many places over here to really open it up

She won't have a Cossie unless its an Escort and we've got fuck all chance of being able to afford that

that dude who drives for MG, who does all the shows, is it Terry or summit? said that the astras handling is like shagging a pi$$ed up supermodel, all the right ingredients, but just a little numb. He also said that the Mini Cooper S handles sweet!
they do look good though! specially in blue! New astra VXR's are cool, i like em just for the Recaros!

 

edited as we can't afford an Astra now, thinking along the lines of a Golf GTi turbo instead...

Anyone know how easy these are to get a bit more power from?

A bloke I know at work will be selling his 47k mile 99 turbo soon for quite cheap, its already got a hybrid turbo on it and a set of the millenium wheels on it, they just seem a bit under powered for a 1.8 20v turbo lump...

 

yes, they are a bit under-powered.

Try a search wes as theres been quite a few vw golf threads recently.

they're good cars though,.
