Default Standard Compression....

Whats its rated to BHP wise?

If you had say Firged pistons, and a decent set of steel rods, along with decent management, head etc would you get good figures?

Or would the std comp piss you about, then needing to lower it ?

PF Nick is running over 250bhp through a fully stock bottom end. How long it's going to last is anybodies guess but it's holding out so far despite some serious stick

If you do things properly, then about 220bhp.. If you don't do things properly, then the sky is your limit (well until the turbine wheel exits via the exhaust or you lose a piston)..

Std compression won't be a problem at all, even for very big power if it's mapped for it. I used to run upto 23psi on KE on 8.5:1, no bother.

But, if yoiu are putting in forged pistons, then they will no doubt need to be skimmed, so may as well drop it to a little under 8 if your planning loadsa boost

Would something in the region of 7.8:1 ie not too low to make it laggy be an ok figure to go for or is it not that simple?

7.8:1 is a good all round comp ratio. Lower ratio doen't really make it any lagier, just less able off boost, but u have to drop it quite a bit to notice.

When you say 8.5:1 do you imply the static compression ratio or is it the dynamic compression ratio?

I've been trying to find some pistons for my 1.9 (I live in Canada) and found someone who can get a set Mahle's. I was hoping to get a set of standard RST's over sized to 82.5mm. It's hard to do when you don't know if the standard RST's extend past the block.

yes, all ratio's are referred to as static. 8.3 is std, 8.5 was due to a skimmed head. Std RST mahle's do come up over the deck - 1.5mm i think is around std, would have to check. You won't get std pistons at 82.5 (

Your 1.9 also has a different head to our 1.9.. (well, our 1.9 is a CVH head on your 1.9 block.. just to confuse things)

There are a large number of different heads that bolt up to our 1.9. The head I'm using is known as the HO head which looks the same as your 1.6 RS heads. We also have a D shaped head, a HSC head and the SPI head which has 2 intake ports (dual runner). The HO head uses a domed piston to bring the CR up to 9.5:1 (no turbo). Since I'm adding a turbo I need to lower the CR and was hoping to do this by using the flat top pistons available to the UK CVH but it sound like 82.5mm pistons are not an option.

can u not get a 1600 block over there? Also, for the price of Mahle's over here (250-300 pounds) i'm sure you could get forged pistons made by someone like JE or ROSS from the US just as cheap, and they would be even stronger.

Mahle have a piston 82.5 I am using them in an engine with stock steel rods from another engine. This produces above std CR.

I really hope we don't start following the yanks/ricers and start making high retarded, hot, high-compression engines There is a time and the place!
