I have a good experience of Norwich and Peterborough.

Most recently applied for one and had the rate agreed etc, the rates then went up by 0.50% BEFORE we took it out (is fixed rate for two years) and the another 0.25% before we signed up and they honoured their original quote.

Just moving in at moment

we've just moved in (well just over a month ago no)

i looked on www.moneynet.co.uk

like mike says, best to get a fixed rate if you can. Me and Kim couldn't.....had to go Self Cert which meant we could only get varible

It went up 3 times between Offer and Completion

Good luck mate....nothing like having your own place

DO NOT GET ONE FOM A BANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go round the build societys and they will match each other until you get the deal you want

Try and get a Fixed one for 2-4 years then shop aaround again

Make sure you are paying off the Interest AND capital, this can catch alot of people out

Book a visit with a Financial advisor if you are unsure, they are usually free for a chat

Or just pay the house outright

erm shouldnt you have sorted a mortgage out kinda first??

or you mean you have one provisionally setup? but you wanna shop around see if you get good deal?

I found best and simplest one was with britannia. theyve been decent with prices, deals and other charges etc with me. and I get about £100 a year bonus of them simply due to the mortgage (and my mortgage is only small)

Yeah , me and my bird got a mortgage first so we knew what our limit would be when it came to looking for a gaff.

Good luck anyway.

I found that some agents / mortgage companys dont like it if you've made an offer on a house with a Mortgage Promise of some sort.

Tiff,

I'm on a repayment mortgage, i guess this is the same as capital and interest then yea? all i know is that in the last year i now own 2 bricks of my house and not enough mortar to stick em together

how did you buy a house without even getting a mortgage yet??

When I bought my second house they would'nt let me make an offer without see a mortgage offer first.

Also had the sale of my own house fall through because people could'nt get mortgages after viewing and offering on my house. this made the whole thing really stressfull took me 11 months to move in the end on my 5th sale

Get some quotes and shop around, then talk to Nationwide, who will probably beat the lot for you....
