im in the middle of doing a zetec in my ka, im fitting a silver top into mine from a mk1 mondeo 1.8i 16v 115ps

the engine mount i used was the same one thats used for fitting the rsT engine in (supplier - blakeyvan@aol.com)

i had issues fitting the original black plastic inlet manifold in, so ive used the EFI cast manifold.

the front panel was too tight aswell with the pulleys, little modification to the front panel

im at the stage for wiring it up, not the easiest part but hopefully will sort it soon

sounds good. how well did the engine mate up to the gear box? did you have to modify it at all?

id like to use a black top engine, but i think if its easyer to use the siver top like you have as the starter moter is on the front (like the ka) where the black to engine has it on the back.

You might need to put in a bigger radiator.

Mine has an RS1800 zetec 130ps and it runs quite hot. I'm fitting a new rs1800 fiesta and changing the cooling system to make it identical tom the fiesta one as where the plastic bulkhead has been removed I can fit the fiesta header tank.

An annoying stupid problem is that the bonnet stay doesn't fit anymore so either fit lifters or use a shorter stay such as from a mk1 focus.

I thought all zetec blocks were the same size??

Surely if you swap the sumps and alternator/waterpump/auxilliary belt systems it will be the same size??

I'm sure this has been done to loads of fiesta's by putting 1800 bits on the 2000 to make it fit???

Hi

I'm another 1 who's done this converison.

I did it buying a scrap 16v escort, sump, pick up pipe, inlet/outlet manifolds, down pipes, wiring. Flywheel

Then you need to find a decent mondeo 1.8 16v lump-buy car-cheap enough, swap all the bits from the escort block over to the mondeo one, drop some 2litre mondeo cams in, heypresto you're away.

If you change the mondeo flywheel-well you must change the flywheel to the escort one it will mate perfectly up the ib5 in the ka, stick the started motor in and its done-apart from all the fidily bits.

I knew someone who had a 2.1 Fiesta RST and it went like a rocket so I guess a 2.0 Ka is possible at a squeeze.

Then there was a Ka 4x4 Cosworth which was mag-featured a while ago...!

The mondeo/escort blocks are the same size, only difference been the compression ratio/cams.

1.6/1.8 and 2.0 are the same size, no matter which one you want to fit, escort items will need to be added-oil pump/water pump, this helps when spinning the alternator and missing the chassis rails.

Ive seen 2.0 turbo zetecs in ka's, 1.6 S2 turbo cvh engines. When i started mine i was thinking about making it RWD but, again, how much do you want to spend.

I'm doing it on a tight budget.

save up Ł4000 , buy lots of parts and take a month of work to try and fit it all.

I suppose that the fact I'll have the facilities of my new employer's race team and help from the team members may put me at somewhat of an advantage!

as long as its a ford race team.....

with thease convershions, its all about how much you know about fords. eg what cluch to use when your using a 2.0 zetec, with a 1.8 flywheel (1.8 so ka starter works) and then mounting it to a ib5 gearbox.

when you cant swap parts you then need to make them. i had to make a lot of brackets to mount ka alternator and pas pump. there may have being ford parts todo it, but i cudnt work it out, so spent a weekend drawing the parts i needed in CAD and using a CNC mill.

as you want throtal bodies, you will have to find some that will fit. im using a 2.0 zetec and i have about 150mm from the inlet to the bulk head. then you need a vacume feed for your brake system, which with jenvey ect you wont be able to, as they are for non assised brake set ups.

what im saying is, companys charge Ł1500 labour to do thease not that its hard, just lots of hours.

After fitting a 1.6 Zetec-S from Focus and blewing it up, I've made a 1.8 Zetec (105hp) transplant and installed 2.0 cams. I made a custom engine mount, which will surely be replaced the supplier for Mike's mount would reply my e-mail

The problem I had: I used a Fiesta Mk4 bell housing on Ka's IB5 for Zetec-S conversion (starter motor opposite side)... I swapped to an Escort bell housing for the new engine. Everything was going ok until my Clutch didn't fit. Tried some Ford clutches available in Turkey, but none had the room to fit. So I had to go for a thinner custom flywheel. Now I don't have the EDIS reading holes on the flywheel, had to switch to Carbs and Haltech IG5 ignition management. What combination do you guys use for Flywheel + Clutch + Gearbox? I really want to do an EFI setup since I'm not happy with a carburated daily drive. The car has been parked for over a year by now, I had to give up because I don't have time to spare for try and see labor anymore.

I'd really appreciate any help.

EDIT: I also had 2 more room problems. The power steering pulley pushed front headlamp forward, and alternator had absolutely no room, had to go with a Toyota alernator. I'm using the standard alternator mount from an Escort.

with a 2.0 silver top: i ahve used a 1.8 flywheel, ka box and the clutch is an escort 1.8 i belive. i just tock it to a cluch company and they found one. there is a diffrence in thickness, but i dont think this will be a problem due to the ka having a hydro cluch. starter moter is a ka one all fits up ect ect.

i have made mount to fit the pas pump and alt. im goign to drop in in next week as i know its goign to be close. but all i will have to do is lower the mount more.

i also have put a escrot waterpump in and a groved pully as the way the belt is means it spins clockwise, and my engien is was from a mondao, whick water pump spins anti clockwise.

im new to this and have been reading through all your thtead, now i just need a bit of help

here goes, my 2001 focus was recently written off by an uninsured driver (with me in it) needless to say it didn't make sense to go through my insurance and lose my NCB.
Anyway, the car still starts and runs but has structural damage.

Iv bought a stop gap ford ka 1.3 just to keep me on the road. iv been reading on some forums that it isn't much work to put the 1.8 zetec into the ka as it bolts straight onto the IB5 box.

I guess what I'm asking is some advice on what exactly I need to do to do the conversion. iv read that I need to modify the engine mount or weld a bracket to the ka to make it work, also I will be using parts of the wiring loom and ECU but I don't want nor need the aircon. Some questions I do have are; how do I connect up the heater/blower, the power steering and the brakes?

I will be using the focus discs calipers and carriers so the ka should stop a bit better, am I able to use the ABS on the ka or not?? and I will be trying to salvage parts of the focus exhaust.

Please if anyone has any help or advice it would be greatly appreciated, thanks
