Default Escort Turbo Diesel Van tuning?

Hi there,

My mate has just bought a V reg Escort Turbo Diesel van. We think it's the 70 bhp version.

Basically it's slow as hell! He reckons it will only do about 75mph flat out, so firstly is there anything that could be restricting this?

Secondly and more importantly, is there any way to tune this engine? I own a Vauxhall Cavalier as a run about car and I have altered the settings on the diesel fuel pump and it makes a hell of a difference. I know I could put a boost controller in as well to adjust the boost, but are there ways to do this on the Escort van?

Can you alter the fuel pump? If so, how?

If this is possible he will buy a bigger intercooler as well. He only wants to do it for a bit of fun, he gets his fun from this Dodge Ram SRT-10.

Cheers
Matt

Well we think we've figured out that it is a low pressure turbo. I think he wants to change the turbo and manifold for that from an Escort that also has the intercooler.

So does anyone know how to alter the diesel pump?

With a bigger front mounted intercooler and the fueling and boost adjusted correctly they can pump out over 130bhp and a huge slab of torque to go with it, Trying to get the fueling and boost just right is hard without the proper equipment. The dervdoctor or Motorsport developments can do it for a very reasonable sum.

Can you give me any info as to how the fuelling and boost can be adjusted on these engines?

Any contact details for dervdoctor?

Cheers
