Default S1 RST not going into gear at all! Help

Hi there all, just joined I hope some one can help, I have just finished restoring my Series One after a long hard year, Engine and box fitted yesterday and lubricants in today,. When I start the car and try to select a gear the lever is just refused. If i select a gear and start the car with my foot on the clutch it will start but the car tries to creep foward, New clutch and recon box, both standard items, ANy ideas? Clutch does not feel nice either, car will drive how ever if started in gear but clutch has a very low biting point. If car is idling and in neutral I have no chance of getting it to select only when engine is switched off.Any help would be appreciated Thanks...

The adjuster on the clutch pedal doesn't seem to be working?

Well I am not sure, The pedal is not clicking or anything, I put the cable onto the box and then just sat in the car and pushed the pedal and there were no clicks, do I need to remove the cable from the box end then push the clutch pedal down then re attach the cable and see if it re adjusts?

You can try to pull the adjuster wheel back with your hand and try the pedal then. Did it come backwards? Did it go back when you pushed the pedal? Sounds like there's something wrong with it. It should adjust automatically.

The pedal is operating correctly, I have if you like a partial clutch, when the pedal is pressed the arm on the box moves so everything is moving. As I said if I start the car with it in first with my foot on the clutch down hard it will start and I can pull away normaly, but the position of the clutch pedal is very low when the biting point is reached, so would the adjuster have this much influence on the clutch movement as I am scared it may be something internal? Are you sure its the adjuster at fault would that cause this problem?

No, I'm not sure. I'm thousands of miles away, so just guessing. It can be internal if you're sure the ratchet is operating fine. Using wrong type thrust bearing or reversing the clutch plate can make something like this also happen.

If the adjuster is gone you should be able to feel a looseness in the pedal, the one on my orion is going and the clutch continually changes while driving.

If you can't fully disengage the clutch the adjuster has to be gone.

I have ordered a new cable and adjuster so will try both of these items, the clutch was working correctly before i changed the gearbox, only driven it about 200 miles, so i cant see that its the clutch. Someone told me that it might be the fork pin inside the bell housing has broken and not letting me get a full clutch, any body herd of this problem at all?

Its highly unlikely to be the clutch being as its so new. I'm sure someone somewhere has managed to break a fork but its not going to be very common. If that was the case, the clutch wouldnt disengage evenly and you would more than likely feel some judder. I would also expect you to of felt the fork breaking to be honest.

My money is on the adjuster
