Default Engine transplant

I have a 1.3 L reg Escort, I know boaaaaaaring , neway as I'm only 17 its hard to get insured on nething else . Neway I was thinking of replacing the 1.3 with a 1.6 EFI The removal etc would be no problem as my mate has an engine lift, but I'm wondering is it easy as far as fitting the 1.6 is conserned( same engine mounts, gearbox etc etc) any info would be a great help!

If the 1.3 is th OHV version which I reckon it is, you will have to change the engine mount. The gearbox from the 1.3 will bolt straight on but you might find it too low geared so you might be best swapping it for the matching 1.6's gearbox. Wiring in the EFi should be simple enough as long as you got all the engine loom with the EFi engine. The radiator will also have to be swapped as the entry and exits are different. Another consideration would be the brakes. The 1.6 EFi has about 96 BHP whereas yer 1.3 OHV has about 60 on a good day! Shouldn't be to expensive to get some S/H calipers and new discs and pads arent that expensive for the 1.6 Escy.
i reckon you'll find it cheaper to actually sell the car and buy a 1.6 escy as you will have to insure your 1.3L as a modified car, which aint gonna be cheap.

Don't forget that the fuel tanks are going to be different. And have to agree with chick, it will be expensive, both converting and insuring. And you can get MINT 3i's out the yellow paper for about 500quid. If you are intent on going ahead, best get the donor car, and your car side by side and swap bits one at a time.

I'm in the middle of doing a conversion to my burds old 1.1 fez, so have a look at my post from time to time.

Yep, personally would sell it and buy the 1.6 and suffer the insurance.

But failing that, look around for a rusted old Xr3i with a decent engine. will cost you about £200 - £300 and strip it, it will be loads cheaper than buying bits and you'll have it right next to yours to do the swop, I'd go for dash loom brakes tank interior engine box rad - basically the whole lot less the shell.

You may think it will be cheaper to pick bits up but trust me a donor car will save you time money and alot of head scratching.

Anothing thing to consider is that if you have an OHC engine, it will look alot diferent to a CVH block, if you forget to inform the insurance about the swop and the old bill check the motor over, it will be easily spotted, worse if you have a bump and an independant inspector inspects your car.

Not that you would forget to inform your insurance of cause
