hi as most of you know we are fitting a pinto in a mk 2 escort and fitting a 2.8i capri box and axle does anyone know what clutch to use and if i can use the 2.8i prop aslo does anyone know exactly what we will have to do to the input shaft on the 2.8i box ? cheeRS

 

I was under the impresion that the 2.8 box woul snot fir as the input shaft was to long u woul dbe better of just fitting a sierra box in as it the same just the input shaft is diffrent you can pick one up for Ł50.

As for clutch you can run a std. clutch up to about 125bhp at the wheels for every day use.

As for prop I think the capri prop is to long if you send me the mesurement you have I will check it against my RS prop for you.

 

from what i have been told is that the ratios in the 2.8 box are very very good ( 1st to forth same as old rs1800. but what i ment about the clutch is which bits to fit ie from 2.8i box to pinto , disc cover etc ? cheers for your info

 

I've got a 2.8 gear box in my mk2,i had the input shaft changed for one the right lengh and used an uprated pinto clutch,the 2.8 one is to big,the capri prop aint no good either,to long,u want one of a rs2000 or of a auto escort or buy a single piece one,about Ł100ish new.

hi mick what axle do you have as we are going to use the 2.8 box and axle but i have been told that the rear axle flange is different to the escort prop ? what input shaft did you have fitted ? was it difficult how much did it cost ? and who done it ? cheers Dave

 

Did not realsie that the gear ratio was diffrent as I have always run a straight cut box.

i use a 2ltr capri back axle and a single piece prop,rocket to atlas was the one i got.
Took gear box to my local gear box place,they stripped it checked it and rebuilt it with correct lengh input shaft,dont no wat it was from though,cost me Ł90.
