Default S1 running lumpy as fook on idle....HELP PLEASE!!!

hi peeps

Notished it on the way back from Ford fair last week and was VERY apparent last night....

Car will idle at 1000k but you can see the needle drop 100 revs every 5 seconds or so!! drop the clutch and the revs drop through the floor and just about picks itself up....

Car cut out on me last night twice, and the thing just don;t want to tick over at all sometimes....

Opened the bonnet and checked for air leaks, but none apparent...and car drives fine!!

any ideas at all?? leads and plugs are being replaced next weekend, but not sure wether this has anything to do with the problem!!

and no...i havn't touced anything!!!! ANYTHING!!!!!

CHEERS

KEITH

Hope you're not changing the plugs and leads yourself?!

Seriously tho, could be a number of possibilities causing it, try the cheap options first (plugs leads, clean the idle screw).

If its still doing it, run it over to Jamsport and get them to hook it up to the computer and see whats going on and where.

my RST has been doing this since I bought it and cant fiqure out what it is! its doing my head in, i've had it in to Well Lane Turbos 2 for it, they were shite charged me for work doing then found the fault was still there.

i've changed the airflow metre, plugs, ECU, removed dump valve, disconnected the cold start valve.

Haven't checked for air leaks, (as i dont know how or where to check)

does yours always do it? mine seems to be in morning mostly (when the cars not been used for a while. for the first 10min then it seems to get a lot better.

Sounds like it may be a tad lean at idle, An airleak could cause this to happen,

Best get it checked out though.

got D/v and that was opening and shutting slightly when idling last night!!!

don't think water is getting in anywhere as it does it from the time you start the key!! only recently though!!

Camshaft oil seal may be the cause then.
Best let SCC look at her again then.

dv should not be open AT ALL at idle...

if it is openeing at all then this can cause exactly the symptoms youre describing (coz its an ai leak and its causing it to run lean)

Put some grooves in the broom handle to help it grip. Mine fired out on my Escos!!

Dont forget to alter the vacuum pipe back to normal too

My suggestion would be to get it to one of the specialists from here as it could be a number of things couldnt it.

Without seeing the car, we can all guess and make suggestions but a check over from an RS specialists will get a result within ten minutes.

Dont know if anyone agrees.

NO i dont agree. I would rather try ALL suggestion first as this costs fook all but my own time. Specialists cost big bucks and dont always find the prob right away

agree with lee actually...

in an idea world we'd all take our cars to the garage to get looked at, but not all of us have the time or money to do so...

if it is something as simple as a knackered dumpvalve then keith would feel like a right bellend taking it to a garage for something so simple...

We would probably charge £10 to tell somebody why there RS is running poor as we would usuallly astablish a fault within half an hour.

Not an expensive thing, after all RS Turbos are not rocket science are they.
