Default Traction Problems - I have non

Right well, I'm having alot of trouble getting the power down at the moment. I took my car out last night for the first time since having a new clutch fitted and all is good at low boost (10psi). But as soon as I go to high its spinning up in 3rd on bone dry roads (forget 1st and 2nd ).

I dont want to start spending silly money but what can I do to help get some more traction. What tyre pressure for example, recommended tyres (yoko's on at the mo) etc etc.

Cheers,
Dan

Run it in reverse until you get to 20mph, then J-Turn it

What tyres are you on Tim (and ollie for that matter). Might have to invest in some soft compound road legal slicks as I'm off to brunters first week of July.

As soon as it gets to about 1bar boost I lose all traction, almost as if its a wet road. 4th and 5th is fine - just lots and lots of torque steer!

Does Karl do rwd conversions for RST's yet?

ATB Diff & adjustable Koni's (maybe these need to be softer?)

Can people quote power @ wheel figures when saying "no problems here" so I can make a comparison. My clio has traction in all gears but has about 40hp

Cheers,
Dan

38psi

I would have thought you'd be getting massive wheelspin with that pressure

Never mind understeer??

Oh also....

The above people who have BIG power Tim/Rick/Ollie etc....

Do you have decent traction in 2nd?? Or is it 3rd onwards?

What modification would you say made the biggest difference to traction?

Mines only 230BHP and I have limited traction in 2nd but after that its fine

Fuck me, thats waaaay too high. you want to be around 29-30psi. At 38psi you are asking for trouble like wheelspin or locking the wheels under braking and hitting the back of someone

As I said, its fine or as good as can be at low boost (230bhp) its when I up the boost (300bhp) its like driving on a wet road in 1st 2nd and 3rd.

I had a nightmare with traction when i was running 235hp @ fly, had toyo proxes and 1st and 2nd like most were fooking useless, 300+ must be ridiculous.

with regards to type pressures i can say what a difference they can make cos i used to race motocross (wouldnt believe the difference between 7 and 9 psi in a back wheel). 29 in the back, 28 in the front. all cars run at these pressures round about im pretty sure.

Im running approx 230 to 235bhp and mine is useless in 1st but it does bight in second and then take off. Ive got Eagle F1's on mine running at 31 psi and just have to deal with launching by steadily hitting the throttle in 1st then full on in second.

I would say though soften up the koni's as ive got them on mine and i tried driving it with them hard and although it cornerd well in the wet and lauching off the lights was a complete loss.

i noticed that the people who aren't struggaling with traction are running 16's

and people who are struggaling runs 17's

could this be a factor????

on me uncles xr3i with turbo conversion, its still on 14's, running around 170bhp, and its nearly impossible to spin on boost evn in first (unless you launch it)

I doubt it, it should be easier spinning a smaller wheel!

A bigger wheel offers more traction.

wud make it more strain to turn the bigger wheel...

but is interesting theory.

As a few people have said, do you have adjustable track control arms?

I'm sure Karl will sort you out.
I've got an AVC R boost controller for mine so hopefully that'll help
