puting laquer on metalic paint question..

I have just put the imperial blue top coat on my new door mirrors for my cossie but do I need to smooth the paint with 1200 grade wet and dry before the laquer?
If not what do I do?

dont flat it before laquering. The basecoat should be dull (dont go for a shine on it) then lacquer to give it the shine.
