Default Oil Found in Boost Pipe

Was cleaning engine bay with a mate on his series one yesterday. Took the boost pipe off between the intercooler and the crossover and found some oil inside it and the crossover pipe.

Is this normal, or is the turbo on it's way out?

Thanks for your reply.

What's special about the oil breather then? How does an uprated one stop oil in the boost pipes?

Basically the standard breather has a pipe running to the bottom of the fuel distributer from the cam cover. This is there to burn off any oil vapour rather than dumping it on the road.On an uprated breather system this oil vapour would would be caught in a catch tank.I wouldnt be worried about about the oil you've found as its 100% normal.Regards Micky

Although oil up there is a sign of either turbo wear or piston ring wear etc.

As long as it's not too much oil, then I wouldn't worry too much. You could also flush the intercooler to get rid of any risidual in there.

Any pics of the S1 btw ?

Nah, the std breather is wank, will always have some oil being sent down to the metering head.
