From what I've been told by a Ford dealer on another forum, the Focus Cosworth will probably appear around 2007. The Mk2 ST will be on a par with the Mk1 Focus RS and there will be a Mk 2 RS sitting somewhere inbetween.

Better be one fast mofo of a car to be worth that money - that's more expensive than a Honda Civic Type R and you could also get a secondhand Focus RS for similar money.
Just can't understand why Ford is only doing them in limited production runs - only possible reason I can see is to increase profit rather than cost of producing them.
Why can't Ford stick their neck on the line and make a large production run of high performance hatches - like they used to!
Just my tuppence worth!
Cheers,
Andy
A Focus Cosworth will be at least Ł25k, probably Ł30k in my opinion, because it'll be pitched at the same level as the Evo IX / X / MM / whatever model designator they've reached this week, and the Scooby STi WRX Type 42 Destroyer Extra Turbo Type With-Bells-On Model T Spec Q.
am I right in thinking profit margins on the Focus RS were slim to none? Or possibly negative as it was a PR exercise, hence the limited run?

IMO Ford should
1. Drop the Focus RS
2. They seem to being making the next ST Focus basically a de tuned Focus Rs anyways price it say 18k.
3. Make the Fiesta RS depending on spec price it 17k (no one will pay 20k for a fiesta)
4.Make a Focus Cosworth give it minimum 300bhp price at around 30k maybe abit more to compete against evo's and scooby's

1. The market for it is too large to ignore
2. The mk2 ST is likely to be very similar to the Mk1 RS (i.e. not de-tuned)
3. I'd certainly hope they realise a Ł20k Festa ain't gonna sell, particularly as the Focus ST will be in that price bracket.
4. It's gonna happen!

I also dont think the ST will have the Focus RS trick diff big wheels etc thus to keep the cost down
Ford have to find ways to make the RS cheaply not as they did with the Focus RS instaed of re programing the robots that build the car to work with the Rs bits Fit normal bits ie dummy wheels and seats then get a human to unfit them and refit them

ps im having a Fiesta RS
shame i cant aford a focus Cos
I heard someone say that end of 2005/2006 is when we could expect the Focus Cos,do you think this is realistic or bullsh*t from this 'Ford Employee',surely we would have seen some scoop pics and I have only ever seen the photos of the red 'Focus RS' that supposedly had the new running gear etc from the new Cos

It was recently released by ford that the Focus RS cost them in the region of Ł27k to build ! - selling every single one at a major loss. This was due to ford wanting the rebirth of the RS to be something special, and so much time and effort went in to getting it to be right - whether they did or not is another debate. However ford could still not justify a price tag much over Ł20k when you've got evo's and scoobies kicking about in the same market.
The Cossie focus, if it ever does come to life in about 2006 earliest will be at least Ł30k, as ford will not stand to suffer the losses they made on the last RS. Question is will this new focus be a marketing exercise (based on borrow designs) or a properly, full design rally shlag weapon ! ?
- Ring any bells with what ford did between the S1 and S2 RST ?

It was in a copy of What car or one of those similar mags a few months back, its a whole new focus(shape). Not exactly nice but it just showed a side view pic in silver of the cosworth. And im sure it said volvo lump!!
If it comes out it wil be probably reshelled Volvo S60R, not really much fun - electronics, haldex and 5 cylinders :-(. Not homologation special like in the old thay. People - there won't be siuch cars as Escort Cossie, Delta Integrale, Mazda GT-R or Audi S1 Quattro - they where killed by FIA, enviremontalists and speeding obsession.
No dealer should be accepting/taking deposits for a car that doesn't exist.
But you should be able to register your interest with a dealer.
I have told my dealer I will buy one and I want to order as soon as the order book opens.
When this happens and the order is confirmed they will contact me and I will pay a deposit then. This is the way it should be and no money should change hands until the car is "officially" available fom Ford.
Quite a few dealers faced legal action from Focus RS owners over the way the whole deposit/order situation was handled.
One dealer even took a "full" deposit of well over Ł20k from one customer, then when the price was announced at Ł20k refused to return the difference until the car was delivered. The customer took legal action.
The same applies with the Fiesta RS Concept. It is still officially just that a concept and no dealer should be taking deposits on them.

got my name down for one, i was told they would be in the region of 34K but they also reckoned that the focus rs would be 27K when it came out but it was only 20K,
i wont part with any deposit until i get the full specs, dont want to buy some 220 brake volvo mishmash
cheers nomad ps i have basically done it same as mike, no dealer will take a deposit yet

True but by registering an interest with your dealer, they will pass this on to Ford.
Ford then realise there are x amount of people wanting the car enough to register interest, that there is a market for it and decide it is worth building.
Hopefully.
