water temp meter

Default water temp meter

hy

i just put the motor back into my s2 and now when i turn the ignition on the water temp meter instantly goes way above the red mark.
everething else works fine, and the fan cut's in normal
where does this temp meter thake it's readings from?

The sensor is right above the exhaust manifold in the cylinder head near the thermostate housing. I think the cable is cracked and gets a short-circuit somwhere

Yup, guaranteed to be the temp sensor. One of my previous S2's did this. You will usually find the little rubber boot that pushes onto the head melts.

also check ur wire aint split and earthing sumwhere!mine did this after a mouse had its fill of my wires!

butt doesend this sensor allso controls the fan? because the fan works fine

No, there's another sensor with switch in the thermostate housing, a plug with 2 pins sits on it

The fan is independant for the gauge (meter)

what is happening, is that for some reason the wire between the gauge and sender (sensor) is earthing. It is unlikely to be the sender itself, more a problem with the connection along the way.

i had the same fault a couple of months ago. it turned out that the contact inside the rubber that connects to the head had gone rusty. my temp gauge would only work when it wanted to. it should be an easy fix though matey.
