Default STARTER MOTOR

has my starter motor gone every time my car gets hots say three quaters on the gauge ill turn it off then it wont start till it cools down i no itl be getting a frying from the turbo but it should start

Need a heat shield coz turbo as you say fries it and fucks it up.

At a guess I would say yes, but the more it is used without a head shield then if it isnt, then it's only a matter of time. Someone else will be able to shed a bit of light on this im sure.

The above would be on the assumption the battery isnt getting charged, but if that was the case it wouldnt start when left to cool down.

Starter motors are a classic weak point on CVH's because of the exhaust placement, more so on turbos.

Try another starter, i think you will find it is your problem it sounds like it.

stevedb: the standard Ford heatshields i have seen are bolted on the block, early blocks do not have these mounts so i'd have a quick peak to see if you do. There may well be a different shield for the turbo but im not aware of one myself.

Get a new starter motor mate if you cant get heat shield go get some exhaust heat wrap and wrap all downpipe with it that will stop it getting too hot it sorted mine anyway

the heat shield for an rst clips onto the turbo oil drain pipe and doesnt bolt to the block

ive done three in 6000 miles on the daily driver and two in 5000 miles on the week end weapon

ford do two types of starter shield, one clips on to the oil drain pipe, the other sorta clips to the starter its self, ive also heat wrpped the down pipe now and pianted the starte silver (due to pysics silver reflects heat lol)

has been cool since,

makes u look a cock tho, go to show the car of and the cunt wont start

yeah, it can be embarrasing. Was in plymouth one busy day at traffic lights, went to pull away and me being the twat I am stalled it! would then not start!!!, boy did I feel a plonker!

Ive just found a heat shield on microcat that encases the whole starter!!!!
