I was there when Martin did his record, and that was properly motoring - 139

Wonder how much room they had on the runway??
Martin........

, I don't think I'd quite manage to pull even close to what Martin did, let alone 139...... although, my med's do give me some strange ideas once they kick in.....lolBut not that strange...
Plus, you haven't seen me launch

128.8MPH Jim, beating the previous record from a Dodge Viper by 1mph or thereabouts, and incidentally Martin did a mental 0-60 with the caravan on the back too
Martin did a shakedown run, then went for the record. He beat it, so called it a day as far as the caravanning went, then went on to smash his own top speed record!
I reckon he could have gone faster, but Martin would then only be beating himself, so said he'd reconsider doing the 'van thing again, if and when he was beaten......
Martin also ran with no std caravan tow hitch (which would have been perfectly acceptable as it's a feature of most caravan's - made a bit of a difference under braking as I remember!
) as he didn't want to crack the record and then be accused of cheating as at the time, his car couldn't possibly have done 186mph

What's the dimensions of a "standard caravan?" I'm thinking that a Lightning could probably best that after the speed limiter is shut off. I'm sure an older Mustang GT with the 5.0 or 5.8 V8 could beat that, as well.
What's limited top speed on a Lightning? 133mph? And I have piloted an 87 Mustang GT on the other side of a buck and a half (very VERY scary!). Maybe some 'Murrican could have a go at it...

That merc engine is capable of generating well over 700lbft of Torque.... I'm sure a Mustang GT or lightening would not have a hope in hell of beating it unless very heavily modded.
Remember Martin took the record from an 8 litre V10 Viper... and this merc has gone ALOT faster
