A mate of mine (after driving tiffs old 3 door) has decided that he now wants a powerful car... He used to own an Rs turbo but we wont get into that...
Anyway he cant decide whether to go for a sapphire cosworth (either 2wd or 4x4) or a 3 door sierra. I told him to go for a 3 door but he isnt sure... Anyone wanna have a bit of input here?

go for a nice late saff 4x4 for luxury. leather air con etc
go for a 2wd for sideways action. also if he's got a lead foot probably wise.
3 doors look way cooler than saffs but i find they do feel really dated nowadays, and parts are getting rarer and more expensive

I've had a 2wd Saff and a 3dr......
Saff great car for an under estimated car (not every Saxo driver wants to race you from the lights).
3dr opposite of the Saff
Out of the 2 I'd go for another 3dr again

depends how much he wants to spend
i reckon for a decent 2wd, 4k
decent 4wd 6k
decent 3dr 8k
but i'm fussy.....there are some bargains out there.
the 2wd cars definately will take alot more abuse than the 4wd ones

I think the 3dr looks better, the saph just looks like an old dated car now. At least with the 3dr you know its a cossie where a saph looks like a 1.8l taxi.
Tell him to buy that guys RS2000, the one that sits with Focus ST2's till 120mph on twisty roads

and the rest i haven't seen a 3dr go for 5-6k in a along time unless theres something wrong with it

a 3 dr at 5k?
nasty.
if he has 8k the choice is his.
3 dr is the best looker and the original
2wd saff at that money wants 2 b concours
even 4wd will be bloody clean.
and as for the taxi comment TONY K! does mine look like a poxy 1.8 taxi?
what do you drive?

all cossie variants are fat i'd have anyone of them, not to be driven as an everyday car imo, just for excursions and shows, parts are getting harder to source so the cars need preserving, 2 wheel drive saff is the cheapest way to cossie ownership

saph is the better driving car in standard forms of both.
mainly because many 3dr's handly are old and poorly setup. and basically old cars, the 3dr was more of a drivers car, and the saph was a more refined pleasure car.
I would go for a saph if he wants a cheap fast cossy.
it will cost him alot more to have a 3dr, and then he may have to spend a bit to get it to a good standard.
really depends where he wants to compromise
looks or handling? or he can have the best of both, but again money.

Saffs are better if you want to do a few miles, 3 doors look better. I always hated Saffs and had nothing but 3 doors but now am perfectly happy to own a saff. At least if i prang it or someone runs into me i'll get all my money back in bits. The saff handles a bit better as its a bit more rigid also.
like everyone is saying really-2wd sapphs drive vey well and for 6k you will get a really good one.4x4 sapphs imop dont drive as well if you want a fun drive.
3 doors look superb but do not feel as solid on the road as a sapph-but i drive a 3 door!
