Default Moddin on a budget

Hi guys, just joined the forum and well impressed I bought a tidy '92 Sapphire Ghia auto back in Feb when my Mondeo lost the will to live just before its mot and I am well happy with it ,but was wondering what is possible on a small budget to get a bit more out of her I appreciate this is nowhere near you Cossie boys of who I have to admit to being well jealous but any increase in performance and Ill be happy, she is totally standard at moment. Any knowledge is gratefully recieved!

I had a 1.8 LX Saph before my Cossie, I got a bit more power by getting a Powerflow exhaust (cost about £300), I put a K&N filter on along with a Weber Carb and I also had the cam modified by piper, I reckon I gained about 20BHP from all these mods. It all depends on which engine you have as to how tunable it is.

Turbo technics did a conversion for one of the 2.0 engined xr 4x4 versions. I think from memory this brought the bhp in the region of 170

the twinky can go just about as far as you acn take it with an exhaust (from ashely) and filter (from K&N) and cams (from piper)
but thats about it unless you start talking about getting it blown or fitting nitrous

the box will take the increase in power, and if it doesn't you can always get one from a 2.9 grany and convert it to fit

as far as stopping and cornering goes you can use cossie stuff but watchout for the different sizes on the rear shocks and the different hubs on the 2wd cars
the 4wd stuff won't fit on the front, be they struts or discs

Can a front wheel drive version of the engine be used in RWD format?

Ie RS2000 16v or Galaxy/Scorpio 2.3 DOHC

These engines aren't too dear and would be a perfect replacement for the 2.0 8v DOHC

what you need to do is find a 2.3 from a scorpio and plonk it in
it's an almost direct fit other than a bit of jiggery pokery with the sump
you need to really keep the balancer shafts as it doesn't look like the sump from the twinky will fit
if you wanted to go manual then you'd have to find a manual version as the clutch and flywheel are totaly different to the twinky stuff (not that you can't use it, they are just smaller)

if you want to go 24 then just drop in the engine and box and job done
