Hydraulic lifter / follower question
Before I do something silly....
Is it really necessary to soak hydraulic lifters in oil (to fill them) before fitting? My head has been off and whilst I haven't actually removed or replaced the lifters, I stood the head on its end for a couple of days to inspect the chambers and clean it. I'm concerned that during that time my lifters will have bled off their oil and hence now be dry again.
Any advice appreciated!

Thanks guys. I've chosen the lazy option based on the assumption that not all the oil will have bled off anyway.
I'm now trying to get the car started. No spark except at the moment when the ignition key is turned. I busy searching posts for advice. Crank sensor gap is OK so a bit lost for ideas at the moment!

True bud-weis, but this morning I've found another probable cause:
One of the CPS trigger lugs on the crankshaft pulley broke off yesterday - I used one as a brace whilst torquing up the pulley itself and it must have sheared off in the process!
I've found it on the garage floor and I've stuck it back on with epoxy. Just waiting for the epoxy to cure and then I'll see what happens....

Good news: Epoxy has set, and car now runs!
Not so good: Ran for about 10 minutes at idle - still have at least one noisy tappet. Will take her for a gentle drive and see what happens...

Note on just leaving the car on idle to jack up new lifters....how do i stand then with a fully rebuilt lump along with new cams that need around 2k for a length of time to bed in??
