drinking in france.....is this true?
ok so i told my dad im going to paris for the weekend for a mates birthday.
he said "if u do nothing else the whole weekend, remember the 3 french rules, 1) drinking outside is deerest, 2) sitting in a bar at a table is cheaper, 3) drinking at the bar is cheaper still"
is it true that the french openly have 3 different prices for drinks depending on where u plan on drinking it?
were getting the ferry early saturday morning and coming back late sunday.
can anyone reccomend good places to go in paris and the best place to stay and park.
were driving and planning on staying in a hotel rather than the car.
kind of going there blind so any suggestions would be great.
cheers guys!

Don't know about the drinking but my Dad drove to France without anywhere booked and stayed in a couple of BnB's and said it was one of the best holidays he had been on cos he didn't have to worry about anything
cheers for the help mate.
just a wait and see job i think.
it will all add to the fun of the weekend.
im sure there will be loads of formula 1 and ibis hotels about so some of them will do on the outskirts.

we'll have to remember to sort a room out before getting to drunk though as 4 fellas in a fiesta aint happening.
Well, lived 23 years in France, most of it in or around Paris and still go back a few times a year and never heard of it!
There are places that will do food / drinks to eat in or take away like over here but don't know of 3 different prices depending on where you sit!
Just ask for the price list before you order!
Stu, they must see you and your mates coming!!

It is true but only in cities really, defo true in paris,
but most of the time, if you have your first beer inside, then go sitting outdside and walkt the bar to order you'll get bar price.
But that's ages ago, last 20 visits to Paris was for work, so no drinking beers outside
In La Rochelle the price didn't differ, but some bars in Paris it really is like that.

Yes its true but another bit of advice [in Paris esp] is to say you are a Scot or even Welsh as the English are regarded as troublemakers and some of the town centre bars charge the top rate regardless if you are or admit to being English.
Yeah its my birthday we're going for so it would be pretty useful to know that, cheers cam. Ill try and put on my best accent
Ive heard vaguely of the 3 price rule before, only one way to find out!

If you manage to find a parking spot, rest assured to come back to a car with the bumpers hanging off
