Had an interesting trip this time too. Not sure when my run of good luck will end!!!!
Left Leicester at 8.45, an hour and a half later than i really wanted,( due to Shings wanting food (for a change
)and all the takeaways were queing out of the door) to catch the 23.59 ferry
. Had a good run down to Dover and made up a bit of time after a little 'moment' with some boy racers on the M25, where we managed to reach ***mph, before remembering we had the trailer!
We arrived at Dover at just before 11.30, where i was told that my security number on my debit card was not the same as the one i had given and i must report to the office. After being made to wait, and then to be simply told that all was ok, i was informed that i had now missed the ferry and had to wait for the 2.45 ferry
! Great!
After arriving in Calais, i headed down the dual carriageway for the motorway, where a slow moving English car decided to move into my lane without warning, with me travelling at about 70mph! I braked heavily and locked the wheels on the trailer, and as i was sure i was about to hit the car in front, he swerved out of the way!
We then sat happily cruising at 100mph and had a good run and found the Cossie straight away, 2 hours and 10 minutes into our journey. It was now 7.30 and i thought ' this is great, we should get into Nurberg for about 10 o'clock and get some sleep.
Haha, wrong again. It took 2 hours to get the car onto the trailer! The car was too wide! I had to take the front brakes off so that the wheels would sit further into the arch and fit into the channels on the trailer! The rears had no chance of fitting and had to sit up on the side of the channels at the back. The winch was also on the wrong side to my towing eye so it was rather difficult to winch her on . I then noticed that the tow hitch on the trailer was loose, and when i attempted to tighten the bolts up they just snapped! That must be my bad luck over surely!
We then had about another 2, 21/2 hour drive to the ring. We set off and had another good run, until we passed Liege, rounded a bend to a point that we could see the road in front for a couple of miles, and there was 4 lanes of traffic stood still! And while in the jam, a friendly trucker tooted and told me i had a flat tyre! Onto the hard shoulder we went! After the tyre change and the 2 hour traffic jam ( 4 lanes of Belgian idiots into one really doesn't go) we went thro' a little diversion which took me back onto the motorway past my junction that i wanted, which led to a 15 mile detour!
Being as it was so late, and we wouldn't have time for sleep, i decided that we'd go and have a look at Spa Francorchamp, being my favourite track and only 2 minutes off the motorway. As we got out of the car at Ea Rouge, it was bitter cold, and started to snow.
On route from Spa to the Ring, it snowed quite heavily, until we were within 5 km of the Ring, where we were met with bright blue skies and steam rising off the road; bizarre!
So that was that and i decided to go to my local, to see my 'older woman'. I told her about my puncture and need for new bolts, and she phoned her friend, who then phoned her friend, who came out with his lad, who took my wheel away, fixed the puncture and brought it back, with the 4 bolts i needed for the trailer, while we waited in the pub with his boss. At last a result!!!
The next day we went for a drive about to do some spectating on the Ring, and then went for a couple of laps, which knackered my front brake discs and a wheel bearing! My good fortune is back!
I let Shings go out for a lap, while i went to Adenau with my older woman to meet one of our friends (who sorted the puncture) and have a beer. ( i dida pathetic 11.51, and Shings a 13.11
)
After a quick shower and change, and a burn to my arm from the iron
, it was pub time again, where we got bullied into drinking far too much sambuca and lashings of nice german beer! For some reason there was quite a few acceptable young ladies in the bar, so i set about them while Shings decided it was better to make friends with a group of English lads in there
.
My older woman got lost taking me back to my digs (200 yds from her bar) and we ended up at her house 25km away! More bad luck ensued; no condom; no shag
! I was woken with numerous missed calls and text messages from Shings who thought i had left him there!
We had a faultless run back to the Cossie, fitted the new bolts and set off, to find that anything above 60 mph resulted in horrendous snaking! It was gonna be a long trip!
We arrived at Calais an hour late, missed our ferry, and the next one was full, so we had to wait an hour and a half for the next one, which sailed 45 minutes late!
We had no more problems on our run up to Leicester luckily!
When we arrived home at 23.45, i thought it would be easier to tow the car off the trailer with Shings' car, so we hooked her up and gently pulled the Cossie backwards, when the ramp decided to slip off the trailer and my back wheel of the car was left in mid air and the floor of the car on the bed of the trailer! Out with the jack and she was soon back on the ramp! So off we went again, then the front wheel came off the ramp the other side, resulting in a broken bumper and possibly my new rad, which was only fitted for the ring trip!!!!!! Good job the jack was to hand, as now the front wheel was in midair!!! Once the car was off the trailer, i then noticed i had a flat tyre, which wasn't flat on the saturday
But luckily for me that was the end of the calamity!!!
