Tried to fire up my cossie today. Cranks but wont fire. Took the lead of the dizzy that leads to the coil and held it near the slam panel. Got 1 spark each time i cranked it and then no spark
Have been told to get a new crank position sensor and phase sensor, which i will do. Has anyone else had these symptoms before, and if so what was the cure?

Funny thing is, it started last week 1st time and i didnt drive it any where. Just let it warm up and then switched her off. Cant see how anything has changed just from being stationery

Ok,
ive changed the crank position sensor for one that i know was working. Still get only 1 spark each time you crank it and then nothing. am getting fuel no problem. Would a faulty map sensor cause this problem?

ive just left me dads mate. thanks though.
Have been on the phone to Mark for most of the morning. He has told me to change map sensor, ignition amp and coil. Am borrowing Warrens map sensor etc tonight. If it doesnt fire up after that then god knows.

you always get one spark when you turn the ignition on , something isnt giving the pulse feed to the coil ,as you have changed the tdc sensor i would next check the amp ,on the inner wing. this amplifies the signal from the ecu into a signal big enough for the coil to operate.

Cheers

if you think its map sensor ,unplug it and try it ,they dont run well but they do start without a map plugged in , thats how i found mine was faulty when it wouldnt start when it got wet.

lol
Im not too hot on the technical side of things, but how does the map sensor have an input into the coil? sorry if i sound dense but wiring etc isnt my thing

im not overly sure, boost alters the spark map ,so if the map sensor is faulty it could affect it........
Have you washed the car,or topped the header tank up , cos thats how mine packed up, was fine i washed it and wouldnt start after , i just unplugged the map and it started up ,
Took the sensor off and took it apart and it was full of water ,shorted out......replaced it and was fine.

Jtech and Alvyn,
I replaced the exhaust housing on my turbo 2 weeks ago, bolted the turbo back on and it fired up fine. Went back to the car last friday and this problem had arisen. The car hasnt moved or anything like that. Havent cleaned the car but it has been raining here.
Checked the wired on the phase sensor. looks fine. no corrosion or splits etc.
Took the fuel rail off with injectors plugged in and put ends of injectors into plastic cups. cranked it over and got feul in 3 of the cups. The 1st injector nearest the cam belt was dry
Cant for the life of me work out why though.
But back to the main problem of no spark. Have def got 4 lugs on the bottom pulley. Am going to try a different map sensor 1st tonight to see what happens. Then the ingniton amp and then the coil, but i am assuming that if i get 1 spark when i switch igniton on that the coil is ok?

yes i would say the coil is working as it gave a spark, when turning on ign this is normal,
next i would unplug the map sensor and try that, also this controls fuel so may be related to the dry injector but god knows how?
then ign amp , could be faulty they can pack up just like that without warning.

wouldnt have thought so mate ,itl be a sensor im sure........ i reckon ul unplug the map and itl start , then you can swear , and move the thing under the dash so it doesnt get wet.
Let me know if i can be of anymore help mate.
