Since the new engine went in my ABS pump sounds louder when it primes (and a bit rough actually) and it takes longer to prime from cold.
it also seems to prime itself up more often when driving.
what could cause this? im sure ive seem it before on my old cars but cant for the life of me remember what it was.... lol
ps brakes appear to work fine (not tried ABS tho)

change the fluid, all of it
just make sure you are well aware of how to bleed the rears
also make sure all the heatsheilding is still there after the engine swap

if it's priming up longer than it normally does then the fluid is not getting pressureised as quickly, therefore it's either got a leak or the pump is getting tired or the pressure switch is faulty or any number of that sort of problems
normally this is cuased by the fluid being old and taking longer to compress
it's also caused by the fluid getting too hot from the exhaust and setting thigns off as well
and obviously if the pressure switch starts to fail or one of the other components is having a tough time this could also be a problem
as long as none of the lights illuminate it's not really a problem, the granada takes an age to pump up but once it does it's fine so i think you are worrying baout nothign

some other problems (some of which i have experienced)
if one of the wheel bearings is on the way out it tends to screw the abs sensor and so you get funny stuff going on, sometimes the lights won't come on but the pedal will either get rock hard or super spongey
one of the sensors might have gone "open circuit" which is when one of them gets a white furry covering on it and the plastic holding it together cracks open
the abs valve block jams up and stops letting the fluid do it's thing internaly
but i'd go with a visual look at the sensors first, followed by a quick poking with a diagnostic computer doobrey
but if the orange light is ocming on then it's most likely to be a sensor
if it's the red light i would seriously park the car up and get it looked at

ps sorry jim for jmping on your thread
hope you get things sorted
if you have abs the pedal does tend to be fairly hard, but you still have moment in it, even if it is only an inch or so of travel
if it becomes so hard you can't move the pedal then things have gone tits up with the abs set up

this problem sounds EXACTLY like mine. Pump takes a while to do its thing when ignition is turned to "1" (about 20 secs) and when im driving, it sounds as though its running quite often. Also, my ABS light is on like jims.
