Default Is this to much to pay??

Went to the body shop, Grove Coachworks. All I hear is good things about them and have seen some of their work including a rather mint 25 aniversary Mini in Burgandy.

Anyway, took the XR3i to get the dodgey sill looked at after it nearly colapsed when I jacked it up.

Looks like the sill from about two inches infront of the door back to the arch will need removing along with part of the inner arch as its only underseal and I said why not do the arch lip while he was at it cus thats on the way out too.

This is the quote I got....

£630 is a bit mutch.... don't you think?

basically they quoted to replace sill and arch inc rust repair and repaint and fit.

In a professional bodyshop that sounds quite reasonable.

But as they say 'you get what you pay for' so I am sure someone will pop up and say the'll do it cheaper!

i got a new sill fitted and painted for £290 on my old S2 and that was from a BMW approved bodyshop.
If i remember right the sill itself was only about £16+ VAT

doesnt sound bad to be honest, theres quite a bit of work there.
you could find cheaper but i expect you wont be able to find any flaw when its done if you go there, like said, you get what you pay for!

If you can find the time to get somone to drop you down, speak to matey boy ROSSCO on this board.

For the price you got quoted, no doubt he'll be able to do it cheaper.

He's only just down the A12 after colchester.

Sill removal should take around an hour, then clean up and check floor and edge, if sound fitting ( welding, sealing & fill ) 1 hour, Mask up, prime 30 mins, rub down etc, 30 mins, top coat 1 hour including polish. Total time 4 hours. You must note a lot will depend on what else is found, and they should use seam sealer and underseal.

On an old escort, you must be kidding!

Also a wheel arch to fit, paint rear 1/4 too.

Inner arch repair etc

16 hours for all that seems about right.
