Default COSWORTH NOT STARTIN, BUT HAVE SPARK!!!!??

HELLO ppl

right i have changed my phase sensor and crank sensor, but it still wont start!!
i find this really funny cos i have a spark from my coil but it wont find its way to the plugs but i do get a spark on plug 4???

there is fuel and the car is tdc, i have used this led tester and i am getting 1+1 and 1+3 back i think this is crank sensor and timming, but i have changed the sensor and the car is defo tdc!!

does anyone know a good auto elec from liverpool or cheshire way..

or does anyone have any ideas what this could be...

cheers.

TDC is when the lug on the crank pulley lines up with the marker, and not the notch - you have got this correct, haven't you ?

hey jon, thought u had fell out wid me..haha

yeah i have lined it up with the fist lug after the notch, but it was not like that it was defo 30 deg out, but now its defo TDC,

i left a gap ov 0.30 for the crank sensor but it didnt wanna spark so i had to move it closer, does that seem right to you, plus i have a gap on the phase sensor ov 0.80.

crank sensor gap should be 0.6 - 1.0mm
phase sensor should be less - IIRC, about 0.3mm

So you've gone through the diagnostics again, and everything's OK ?

yeah i have been through it loads a times now, its like it wants to start now but can not hold the spark, i had it ticking over but then died on me. and it has not run since then..

you know how much ov a hard time i have had wiv this car..

i dont think its a wiring fault cos i am getting all the right readings back to the ecu.. but that led tester i got off a mate keeps coming up with crank sensor and phase sensor but i have set them to the right gap..and changed them to all other values.

you haven't got the phase sensor and crank sensor plugs the wrong way round have you - the white plug goes to the crank sensor, black to dizzy

am going to ignore that one J..lol

I done that check again to be sure from secs post, and i am NOT getting any AC voltage back fromt the phase an crank sensor!!! now i have set the sensors to the right gap, but if i set the crank sensor at the right gap i dont get a spark, but if i move it closer then i get a spark???

i should not imagine that this t a great problem, but even when i do get a spark i dont get an AC voltage still!!!

jon you must know someone who i can pay to come and fix this..lol

to get a reading off a crank sensor or phase sensor you will need an ociliscope or a very acurate analogue volt meter that reads nano volts, if you a are getting a spark to start with, then none at all after its started then you have a coil voltage problem, ie the coil is not going to full voltage after cranking as the coil runs at 12.8 volts during crank then 9.9 volts after the car has started, if its not getting the correct voltage it will not create an intense enough spark, bear in mind that being 1 volt out on your coil input voltage means 200 volts diferent on the output voltage, as they are ineffect a step-up transformer.

the meter am using is a good one i got it from work i am getting a spark on plug 4 but it will not spark to the others!

i thought the voltage from the crank sensor is about 2vac and the same from the phase sensor but i think its about 4.5vac from that???? i got this of a post secs,

when i just use the HT lead to see how strong the spark is its fine, but it must not be strong enough to transfer to the leads??? does that make sense!!!

sorry lee your right i can not use a meter to measure the voltage on them, i will have to get ociliscope to see if i am getting a signal, but if i am then its got to be the coil of ig amp modual..!!!

quite correct matey, it could even be somthing as simple as a bad live feed to your coil, or a bad earth on your ignition modual, good luck mate ...Lee

If you are getting spark from the coil lead but not from the dizzy, it may be a faulty rotor button or dizzy cap.

Hope you get it sorted
